💡Member Spotlight: Rich Hirschkoff

What inspired you to start HOUSINGMV?

After retiring from 26 years in private practice as a licensed Marriage Family Therapist, I witnessed the countless suffering homeless living on the streets of Mar Vista, and the many community members expressing enormous frustration over the intransigence of the problem. I knew I had to do something to help the lives of our fellow community members in dire need, and thus was born HOUSINGMV.

What has your experience been like as part of HOUSINGMV?

My experience from the very inception of HOUSINGMV was how impressed I have been with the many kind, loving, and charitable people who feel as I do and chose to join me in our mission to help improve the lives of the homeless of Mar Vista. I am the luckiest person to have so many highly talented kind people join my staff as board members and volunteers to dedicate their heartfelt work weekly both on the street at our Outreaches and behind the scenes.

What do you love most about Mar Vista?

The thing I love about Mar Vista, having lived here for 69 of my 76 years of my life are the people who live and enjoy its village lifestyle where people know and care about one other.

🤝 Our Partners in Service

Many of our unhoused neighbors have difficult accessing routine medical services. We are lucky to partner with organizations like UCLA Health and the Venice Family Clinic to provide care at our outreach events. In April, we were able to help treat lacerations and an untreated blood infection from a spider bite. These minor treatments can make a huge difference in quality of life.

Thursday Outreach

Every Thursday from 2PM to 4PM, HMV’s Outreach Team sets up at Venice & Globe to provide services to Mar Vista’s largest encampment, under the 405.

Saturday, May 21st from 10AM to 2PM, we’ll be distributing hygiene kits and resource guides at the LA Neighbors 4 Neighbors Access Center at St. Bede’s Episcopal Church.
