A Few Good Memories

I am going a different direction this time:
I was curled up under a  blanket trying to keep warm. I got to remembering when my mother would put rocks in an iron skillet and put them in the oven to get them hot. All we had in the four room house was a little stove in the living room. Once the skillet was hot, she would run it between the sheets to warm the bed. On some occasions she would heat bricks; when hot, she would put them, wrapped in hand towels, at the foot of the bed under the sheets. When I crawled under the cold covers, I would put my cold feet up against the hot bricks to get warm. We didn’t have a bathroom in the house; we had an outhouse in the back and, yes, we lived in town. We didn’t have hot water. My mother would bring in a metal tub from outside, she would heat water on the stove to pour in the tub. And, as a terrible as it sounds, we would take a bath one at a time.  I was young so I thought everyone did this. One particular night my parents went to a bar. I couldn’t drag the tub outside to empty because it was too heavy. My older brother came in from work after midnight, didn’t see the tub,  and fell head first. It was hysterical; of course, he wasn’t too happy. I like to remember the good times because it helps when bad memories pop up. But I can smile now because the bad memories pop up less and less. But when they do, I can put them behind me and that is a very good feeling. God bless you all!!!
MESSIAH #98
December 1 & 2, 2018
MESSIAH CHORUS SINGERS INVITED!

The lights dim. A hush spreads throughout the church. The Multitude enters, engulfing the listeners, softly humming “O Come, O Come Emmanuel”. Thus will begin the 98th annual presentation of Handel’s “Messiah” by the Tulsa-area Lutheran churches on Saturday & Sunday, December 1 & 2, 2018. All who enjoy singing are invited to join the chorus! No tryout required! If you have questions about singing in the chorus, contact Donna Boggs at 918-697-7822 or 918-258-5201, or your congregational representative for information and rehearsal schedules. Singers are urged to attend all 5 rehearsals, the dress rehearsal,
and all 4 presentations.

We invite all who have sung in past years to join us again. We encourage everyone, especially youth and young adults, to come and learn this beautiful music and help us lead this unique musical presentation that approximately 1000 people attend each year. Include yourself in the experience of sight, sound, and a deep and wonderful feeling of telling the Advent/Christmas story using Scripture, beautiful music, drama, and pageantry.

Rehearsals will begin on Sunday, Oct. 28, 2018. We will practice from 2:00 – 4:00 PM at First Lutheran Church, 13th & Utica Ave., Tulsa. We will practice each Sunday afternoon until the presentation dates of Dec. 1 & 2.
