Service Opportunity with Servant’s Table

Servant’s Table is providing a free community dinner on Monday, February 18 at Grace United Methodist Church in west Tulsa and we have an opportunity to walk in service with them! They are making sloppy joes, tater tots, green beans, and dessert. We would help cook, serve, and eat with the folks that come for the meal and then have clean up time after.

Dinner starts at 5:30 but we would need to arrive around 4:00pm to get the food ready and warmed up.

If you would like to participate, please contact Sara Brightwell at 918-698-1873 or sign up on the sheet that will be available in the Commons.

If you would like to help out but can’t participate, you can donate monetarily to help with the costs of the food! Please just make your check out to First and in the memo section put Grace Dinner and the church will get the donations to Servant’s Table.

Good Luck or Bad Luck
This is part of a service Vicar Kara ministered about. I brought back some memories to me. I was sharing with a very good friend and she wanted me to share. I know I did, once, but I didn’t go into great detail. I never really though in terms of bad luck turning into good luck. After I spent three months at Country View Hospital, I stayed in Tulsa. I didn’t want to move back to Okmulgee where I lived, I was homeless. For three months, I found two jobs and one was where I met my husband. I also attended three churches but again, I gave up. I said, “No more.” I also gave up on God. “If this is what churches are about? FORGET IT.” Bob and I were together twenty-six and a half years. He suddenly died from cancer. Then I totally quit believing in God. I started drinking and smoking. Preachers and God didn’t love me, so I was meant to go to hell anyway. “Who cared?” But I had to quit for the sake of my granddaughter. I started AA. I was not happy it was in a church. But, in a way, I felt a little safe. It wasn’t Pentecostal but, after six months of attending AA, I called and met Pastor Martin. I guess you could say the rest is history but I myself can say bad luck CAN turn to good luck. I tried church one more time and I am so glad I did. Amen!
