The following information and links will enable Mackenzie businesses to quickly navigate and reach necessary information in this rapidly changing environment.
The South Canterbury Chamber of Commerce is liaising directly with the Ministry of Social Development (Work & Income) and other government agencies regarding the COVID-19 Government Business Support Package released 17th March.

Government assistance now available

The Government has released an unprecedented $12.1b economic response package to help cushion the impact of COVID-19 and support the economy during this crisis, including offering financial support to the business sector, to help alleviate the impact of coronavirus (COVID-19). Refer Beehive announcement 17th March. The Chamber family and Business NZ have worked with government to help shape the package and plan how this will be rolled out to our business community.
This includes:
  • Wage subsidies for those faced with staff redundancies or those suffering a loss of income due to reduced business. This is open to employers, self-employed, sole traders and contractors
  • Leave payment for those who need to self-isolate, cannot work because they are sick with COVID-19 or cannot work because they are caring for dependents who are required to self-isolate or who are sick with COVID-19.
Full criteria and applications can be accessed via the Work and Income website below.

Coronavirus Pulse Check

The impact of COVID-19 on your business

The South Canterbury Chamber of Commerce, Canterbury Employers’ Chamber of Commerce and ChristchurchNZ are currently pulling together a Canterbury-wide survey to understand the impact of COVID-19 on our business community.

This is being distributed through a number of agencies to enable us to reach as many organisations as possible. Please only complete the survey once. This will ensure we are well informed of the impact on the region and can provide an evidence-based overview of the current and future impact of COVID-19 to inform Government.

By completing this survey, you agree to share your responses with both The Canterbury Employers’ Chamber of Commerce and ChristchurchNZ, along with Regional Business Partners (RBP) South Canterbury Chamber of Commerce, and Enterprise North Canterbury, however your responses will be anonymous unless you wish to add your contacts details for further support.

Below is a brief survey that should take no more than five minutes to complete. Your participation is very important to us – thank-you for your time!
