Greetings from Panama!

It is my sincere desire that this report finds you in good health, physically as well as spiritually and enjoying the richest blessings from God our Father.

Our first quarter began with a bang but has quickly turned into a bust. We started off the year receiving the Connections English Classes team from Midland, Texas. They worked with students from the Torti extension of the University of Panama as well as with members of the Torti community at large. Immediately following their mission trip we began with preparations for the first retreat with the Torti church. No sooner had we finished with the first of three scheduled retreats when we began to hear news of a new virus from China. By March 9th, the ministry of health had confirmed the first case in Panama from a woman who had arrived from Spain on March 8th. A week later we were on total lock-down ordered by Nito Cortizo, President of the Republic of Panama.

I am in my office at the church building in Torti and have advised Teddy to take his family and go up the mountain to the headwaters of the Sereno river (where  Yoise, his wife has a few acres of land that was part of her family's farm) and shelter there until we see how things are going to develop. From what I have been able to learn on the internet, people with high blood pressure or diabetes have a very hard time surviving this virus. Teddy suffers from both of those things. I will be living in the office so I will be able to coordinate relief efforts until quarantine is lifted.
