Issues that Affect our Neighborhood
Tues, Oct 20th - Proposal to Include two resident focused members as "Resident-at-Large" on each of the zoning boards. WAvNA SUPPORTS

If you believe that our City should use zoning to preserve residential quality of life by controlling zones for entertainment, live music, hours of alcohol sales, etc., this is a great opportunity to speak up and advocate for a more balanced approach that focuses on resident safety and quality of life.
 
By appointing more residents and less developers and those employed by the hotel, entertainment, & real estate industry, we can shift the focus to be more resident-focused.
 
Miami Beach United recently proposed that each Land Use board include two Residents-at-Large members- ideally people who are community leaders with a history of advocating on behalf of residents.
 
We STRONGLY urge residents make time to advocate for this initiative by voicing their opinion at the zoom meeting (see below) and emailing Mayor Gelber and fellow Commissioners:

  • 1420 -1508 Bay Rd, Flamingo Point. About Bebito's Cafe and an upcoming restaurant facing Bay Rd. Request to increase total seating from 120 total to 215, includes 60 seats outdoor.
 
Outcomes
Outcome at Commission Which Voted Oct 14th Meeting

C4G, Height increase Alton Road from 50 ft to 75 ft-  WAvNA OPPOSES Commission voted YES to forward to Planning Board. Then it goes back to commission in Nov for a vote

R5G, Prohibit suite-hotel in West Avenue neighborhood - WAvNA SUPPORTS Commission voted YES. Now it is the law. WAvNA initiated ordinance, Commissioner Samuelian sponsored. Big win for our neighborhood.

R5R, New restrictions scooter rental - WAvNA SUPPORTS Commission voted YES to forward this. More good news - Samuelian's scooter rental restriction ordinance passed last month. And Richardson is also sponsoring yet another scooter rental restriction.

R7H, Generators for pumps not mandatory, install on a case by case basis. Passed unanimously.
