Hi there,

It's the beginning of the Mercer Island School District's mid-winter break. Safe travels to everyone on exciting adventures, near and far. If you're in town, I hope you enjoy the quiet streets, slower pace, and good weather. I'm looking forward to some fun adventures with my family, but first – here are a few things I wanted to share with you:
  • The Mercer Island Youth & Family Services (MIYFS) Foundation annual breakfast took place last week and raised $415,000. It was a fantastic event, and one of the highlights was this must-watch video that captures the importance and impact of MIYFS in the Mercer Island community. (Above image: an illustration by Lisa Nordale that appeared on the breakfast program.)
  • A new mixed-use development project planned for Mercer Island Town Center is poised to enter design review with the City of Mercer Island. This is the current location of Mud Bay pet store, Mercer Island Cross Fit, King Insurance, and Tiger Garden restaurant. Development interest in this site in 2015 ultimately led to the revision of Mercer Island's downtown development code in 2016.
  • Here's a look at what happened last month in Mercer Island real estate, plus our current market observations and design spotlight!
  • An interesting listen: the KUOW Speakers Forum Podcast episode, "It's a train, on a bridge, that floats. It's complicated," discussing the "unique engineering challenges" of constructing a light rail line on the I-90 floating bridge. (KUOW)
  • Bravo to Mercer Island mom Effe Parks who created the new podcast Once Upon a Gene "to build healthy dialogue about kids with disabilities." (
  • These sweet lunch ladies at the Mercer Island High School melt my heart. (Q13)
  • Do you love Mercer Island parks? If so, be sure to share your input in this survey, which will provide important feedback to the City's new Parks and Recreation Commission as it begins a community-driven process to update the city-wide Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Plan (PROS Plan). (Let's Talk Mercer Island)
  • Another quick City update – City Council meetings are now slated to meet 30 minutes earlier – at 6:30 pm on the first and third Tuesday of every month.
  • Upcoming events include a Recycling Presentation with Recology and Ridwell; Discovery Lab with KidsQuest; "Your Legacy is our Future" presentation; MIVAL Jr. Spring Art Workshop; Youth Theatre Northwest's Annual Fundraiser Gala; Disney & Dessert Fundraiser for the MISD Orchestra; and more!
Thank you for reading and have a great week!
