Hi <<First Name>>

Thanks so much to everyone who completed our recent survey.  Your help will make a huge difference to badgers and, as you know, hundreds of them face a very uncertain future in the coming months.  Due to the recent Cabinet re-shuffle, we have no idea what to expect from our new Secretary of State for the Environment, Andrea Leadsom.  But she’s a huge supporter of relaxing the hunting ban so we don’t expect her to change position on the badger cull despite so much evidence piling up to prove that focusing on cattle with improved testing and increased movement controls really does work.  We’ve heard that there will be a Westminster Hall debate on 7 September to discuss badger culling and bovine TB and hope that the cross-party support against the badger cull is well briefed and that the Government, for once, listens to the evidence base.

Until then the survey has enabled us to identify some training requirements and to this end we're planning to set up some training sessions that we hope to hold sooner rather than later.  If you completed the survey and said that you would like to help but needed some training, keep an eye on your inbox over the next few days.  There were lots of offers of help in all areas and for both zones which is fantastic.  As we approach this year's culls and in light of the probable roll out, our badgers will need all the help they can get and it's really heartening that four years in, people are still coming forward to stand up for badgers, conservation and science!

Team Badger Big Badger Mosaic

Shoot selfies, not badgers!

Are you a selfie fan?
If you are then you'll be interested in Team Badger's Big Badger Mosaic
The mosaic is being put together to show the public face of opposition to the badger cull.  If you're not a fan of being photographed you could always take a photo of your pet or maybe your favourite badger toy.  All selfies uploaded will be coverted to black and white and will be added to the mosaic.

Badger watching in Somerset

In August,  Somerset Against The Badger Cull will be starting its fundraising efforts again as the fourth year of the badger cull approaches.

One of the fantastic prizes on offer will be an evening's badger watching for two people in Somerset, where you'll get the chance to see these badgers paying a visit to get their favourite treat of a bowl of muesli and soya milk!
Keep an eye on the group's Facebook post and please get in touch if you have anything you would like to donate to an online auction.

Spot the badger!

Just for fun the Mirror posted this puzzle this week.

Somewhere, hiding amongst the zebras is a badger.

We spotted it in under twenty seconds, but some people have apparently spent an hour searching and haven't found it.

Maybe our years of looking out for badger activity puts us at an advantage!

To see if you can spot it, click here.

Devon Badger Group's Mini Wildlife Festival

Earlier in July our friends at Devon Badger Group held a very successful Mini Wildlife Festival at the Palace Gate Centre in Exeter as part of National Badger Week.

There were numerous interesting and informative stalls, showcasing not just badgers, but many other British wildlife species.  The event was such a great success that another will be held next year.

If you were unable to make the event or were there and are interested in seeing some photographs you can view the group's photo album.

Somerset Badger Patrol

As we near the likely start date for this year's cull, you'll start to see more postings on Somerset Badger Patrol's social media sites.  Keep an eye on the Facebook page and Twitter feed for more information over the coming weeks.  This video was filmed in Year 2 when a representative from the  International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) came down to Somerset to join up with our patrols.  Although filmed in Somerset, patrols take place in all cull zones, so if you've never 'walked the walk' before, this is the type of experience you're likely to have whether you join patrols in any of the exisiting or new areas.
