COMMUNITY MEETING, LGBTQIA ALLY TRAINING, TONIGHT at 6:30pm
Join us for an engaging and dynamic cultural training that supports institutions and individuals in being allies for LGBTQIA students and other community members on tonight from 6:30-8pm. Through personal stories and multi-media, you will see and experience some of the barriers and successes that the transgender, gender variant and LGBTQIA communities face, and gain tools for deepening personal understanding of the issues, which will support your allyship.

Fresh “Lev” White is a facilitator, trainer, mediator and certified coach. Since 2002, he has offered hundreds of LGBTQ Ally trainings in the SF Bay Area and beyond. Pizza and childcare will be provided.

BUSD ENROLLMENT REMINDER FOR 5th GRADE FAMILIES & INCOMING KINDERGARTENERS

All 5th graders moving on to BUSD middle schools must officially enroll (enrollment to middle school is not automatic) -- enrollment forms were sent home to current 5th graders and are due at the district office by Friday, February 7th.

February 7th  is also the enrollment deadline for any incoming Kindergarteners or TKers! Again, enrollment of siblings is not automatic.

You can find all the information about BUSD enrollment on their website at http://www.berkeleyschools.net/

CHINESE NEW YEARS CELEBRATION
Please join us for a Chinese New Years celebration! Next Wednesday BAM welcomes the annual performance of the White Crane Lion Dancers from San Francisco.  They will perform on the yard at 2 pm. All families are welcome to witness this super fun and visually stunning event.

HEALTH NEWS-CORONAVIRUS INFORMATION
The cold and flu season is upon us. The District is also monitoring the coronavirus situation closely. There are no known coronavirus cases in Alameda County or the Bay Area at this time. We are in close contact with the City of Berkeley Health Officer and have discussed protocols in the event that we begin to see local cases of the coronavirus. The City of Berkeley and Alameda County will continue to keep the district office advised.

For reference, and for best practices regarding preventing the spread of infectious diseases,  please see this letter from Alameda County Superintendent of Schools, L. Karen Monroe, and the Interim County Health Officer, Erica Pan, MD, MPH.

SUPPORT BERKELEY PUBLIC SCHOOLS IN THE VOTING BOOTH!
There are three important ballot measures in the March 3, 2020 election that affect our children. These measures are critical to the continued success of our schools. Getting them passed will help us keep talented teachers in Berkeley (E), upgrade our infrastructure (G) and maintain our campuses (H). You can find a lot of information on the campaign website, including links to donate and volunteer and request yard signs.

Here are some important ways we all can help:

  • Canvassing and phone banking -- Join other campaign volunteers for door-to-door canvassing on weekends (meet at campaign headquarters, 1652 University Ave) and phone banking weeknight evenings at campaign headquarters.  SIGN UP HERE
  • Spread the word to your friends, families, neighbors, request a yard sign here.

For more information, please contact Gail Carson-Hedrick at gailcarsonhedrick@gmail.com.
