Hello to all of our Readers,
I hope you all had a relaxing and fun summer. This is always a busy time of year as we get back to our regular routines and get ready for a 'new' year.
We are excited to tell you about what's new at GLA!
First, GLA has recently partnered with Dr. Denise Milovan, a Clinical and Neuropsychologist with expertise and experience in helping clients with anxiety disorders.
Dr. Milovan has a private practice and also has experience with the Complex Injury Outpatient Rehab program at Toronto Rehab. Dr. Milovan will work collaboratively with our OTs and RSWs to treat driving and passenger specific anxiety using a cognitive-behavioural and desensitization approach.
This program will complement Road to Recovery, our driving assessment and driver rehab program.
Please follow this link to learn more about our new driving anxiety program.
In addition, we are also pleased to announce that GLA is now offering Vocational Assessments.
Iva Keightly, Registered Social Worker, is trained and certified to conduct vocational assessments. She has vast experience in completing vocational assessments and helping clients return to work. She has presented at various conferences and in June 2014 was awarded the Crystal Award from George Brown College for her work in vocational assessment and treatment. Iva was also recently selected to participate as a panelist at the Ontario Association of Social Workers' provincial conference on the topic of labour market employability and vocational counseling.
Iva speaks several languages and she will be working with our clients to provide comprehensive assessments and to develop targeted treatment aimed at helping clients to return to work.
GLA strives to provide services in multiple languages to better serve clients from our diverse and multicultural city.
In addition to the multiple languages spoken by our treatment team, including but not limited to, French, Hebrew, Cantonese, Mandarin and Urdu, we are very excited to announce that we are now able to provide social work and RSW services in Korean.
If you would like to refer a Korean-speaking client to us for treatment please contact us and we will be happy to make the arrangements.
GLA is preparing for a very busy Fall! We were the lunch sponsors of St. Mikes Head Injury Clinic's 'Out of the Rough' annual golf tournament on September 11th, and it was wonderful to see so many of our colleagues out having fun and raising money for such an important cause.
I will be presenting at the OSOT conference on CAT issues and we will have booths at OTLA and TRI's Spinal Cord Injury conference as well as at the Toronto ABI Network conference this Fall.
In this month's addition of the newsletter we continue to highlight a monthly Success Story. As many of you know this weekend is the 4th annual BIST Run, Walk and Roll event. This month's Success Story is written by one of our clients who participated in the event last year with the support of his RSW, Philip Lam. Please visit our blog to read his inspirational success story!
As always, please call us with any questions about the articles in this newsletter, we will be happy to provide you with additional information.
