Big Energy Saving Week starts on Monday

Are you ready for Big Energy Saving Week 2016? It starts on 31 October and together we're putting on even more local events than last year to help people save money on their energy bills. There are still lots of ways you can take part:

Calls for evidence

There are six new calls for evidence on CABlink. Thank you for your patience while we got these updated. Calls for evidence will now be updated regularly and highlighted in this newsletter. If you have any feedback about the slight changes to how we do this, let us know.

Switch on to National Consumer Week

Posters and leaflets for National Consumer Week (28 November - 2 December) are ready. This year it's all about getting millions of consumers Switched On to their rights and product safety when buying electrical goods. Digital campaign resources including a briefing, template letters and social media pack will be coming soon.

What’s your relationship with Jobcentre Plus?

Get your experiences of working with local Jobcentres heard by the Minister of State with responsibility for Jobcentre Plus. Damian Hinds has asked to understand the kind of relationships Jobcentres have with Citizens Advice offices across the country. A survey for local offices to complete is coming in November.

The Government’s health and work consultation

We expect the Government’s health and work green paper consultation to be launched next week (week starting 31 October). This consultation is expected to open up debate on how to support more disabled people and those with health conditions to enter or stay in work. Shortly after its release we’ll let you know how you can contribute to our national response, how you can respond locally and how we can support you to do this.

Research and Campaign forums

Please save the date for Research and Campaign forums coming in January. We are finalising the agenda and will open bookings in the next month.

  • Manchester, Methodist Central Buildings on 17 January
  • Leicester, St Martins House Conference Centre on 23 January
  • Bournemouth, The Best Western Hotel Royal on 26 January
  • London, The Lift Islington on 31 January

Local action round up

Get ideas and support on actions to take by reading local action reports from around the network. Share yours to let everyone know what you’ve been up to and what’s working. Here a few examples of your great work over the last month.

  • Scunthorpe - presented about their services to their Jobcentre Plus, who set up a fast track referral system for new Universal Credit clients who required budgeting advice.
  • Birmingham - handed out leaflets and chatted to shoppers about scams at a local supermarket
  • Westminster - produced a leaflet on Basic Bank Accounts for their clients alongside their involvement in the national campaign
  • Rochford and Rayleigh - welcomed the chairman and vice chairman of Rochford District Council to a visit of the Rayleigh office to raise awareness of their work
  • Sedgemoor - met a local letting agent about problems in the area. The agent agreed to ensure key clauses are explained to tenants.
