THIS ISSUE: Live With Intention | Our 7-Step Guide to Finding What You Love | LinkedIn Profile 'No-No' Words | U of Phoenix Entrepreneur Event

Life is Short: Live With Intention

I recently got some sad news. A former high school classmate died suddenly last week. He was in his mid 40s, and the cause of his death is unknown at this point. He was an extremely talented guitar player back in high school, and went on to study a combination of music and engineering in college. The news of his passing reminded me of this thought:

As a career coach, I see my fair share of resumes and LinkedIn profiles. I've noticed that certain words and descriptors tend to be used so often, by so many, that they lose their punch. Apparently, there may be an oversupply of "self-starting, motivated, driven, strategic thinkers" out there. This Fast Company article talks about some of these words that you might want to avoid, but also about an alternative to using them.

The bottom line: Whether in your resume, your LinkedIn profile, or an interview... Show them don't tell them. Let your experience do the talking. Read the article
