June 17 —Pub Session: 2pm-5pm -The Barley Mow Merivale Alex and his crew at the Barley Mow on Merivale Rd. have stepped in and offered to host our pub session on June 17 so we'll be having a session as usual, just in a different location. It's short notice but we'll still have a good crew to make merry with some Cape Breton/Scottish/Irish tunes! From the 416 take the Maitland Ave. exit southbound, you'll end up right on Merivale Rd. There is parking in front of the building, enter off Capilano Dr. or Merivale northbound. Tons more parking just behind the building (by the gas station). On bus route 176. Website Good food and good beer, breakfast served until 2pm.

June 24 —House Session: 2pm-5pm -No house session, we've decided to start the summer break from practice sessions a bit early this year.
June 24 —Reel Slooow Jam: 2pm-5pm- Hosted by Mary Nash at 18 Spyglass Ridge in Stittsville, ON K2S 1R6 Phone: 613-831-1656. Google Map There is limited parking on the street, and it is quite narrow. You may wish to drop off people or packages at the door and then proceed to park. There is plenty of parking just past Spyglass Ridge at the golf club parking lot. BYOB. The Reel Slooow Jam is aimed at those who are new to playing fiddle (or piano or guitar) and who would like to learn Cape Breton tunes. We'll focus on tunes such as airs and waltzes, as well as playing jigs and reels from the session repertoire but at a slower learning pace with more time for those who don't read music to learn by ear. Check the Tunes page for the list of tunes often played at the slow jam. Please click on the DOODLE app to sign up for each event. Using this helps the hosts determine the amount of seating required. If you are uncomfortable or unsuccessful using the app,contact Gary at firstname.lastname@example.org. Also contact Gary if you are interested in hosting a future session.

July 1 —Canada Day: 1pm to whenever! Potluck BBQ hosted by Ken and Nicole Roy. Celebrate Canada Day with some tunes and summer fun Cape Breton Style. This will be a combined jam session for both the OCBS regulars and the Reel Slooow Jam groups. CB Club members and supporters of OCBS are also invited to share in this musical family event. Bring your spouses and children along, and your swimsuits and lawnchairs too, and don't forget your instruments! There is a safe waterfront area on Lac MacGregor for swimming and lots of outdoor play space. Hamburgers and hotdogs, and non-alcoholic beverages will be provided. July 15 —Pub Session: 2pm-5pm - Celebrate summer with us at Grace O'Malley's East Coast Pub 1151 Ogilvie Road Google Map Join us under the dory (near the lobster traps) to play some music, or bring some friends to listen to down home music and meet old friends or maybe make some new friends! This session is mostly group playing with a few solos, let us know if you have something special to share with the group. Sheet music permitted. Generally a pretty fast pace. Jam ouverte avec concentration sur le pieces de l’ile du Cap Breton, de l’Écosse et de Glengarry. Apportez un instrument ou venez partager une chanson avec nous. Ou, venez savourez la musique et notre plaisir. On ne sait jamais qui s’y présentera, mais c’est certainement toujours un groupe avec un accueil amical avec qui passer l’après-midi.

OTHER EVENTS July 7 —Music for Malcolm: 1pm-5pm - Maxville Arena Hall If you like Fiddle, Step dance and Celtic song - you will not want to miss the 5th Annual Music for Malcolm! Malcom Dewar taught music, was a part of and led many groups in Ottawa and Glengarry. He continued to play, compete (and win) well into his years with Alzheimer’s. When he could barely remember anything else, he could still pick up his fiddle and play. Music plays the same role for many, this annual event is a tribute to Malcom which will raise funds for "The Malcolm Dewar Music Bursury for the preservation of Old Time and Scottish Music. Bursaries are given each year to young fiddle students primarily in the Glengarry area to support their learning. In the last two years several students of Ian MacLeod and David McPhee have been recipients. This year’s event has rounded up some fine talent - old favourites, and new performers to brighten your Saturday afternoon.
