Hello Musicians!

Back to school... and back to Sessions! We are back in the swing of regular pub and house sessions once again. Practice makes perfect, and the house sessions are the perfect place to practice. It's a chance to learn new tunes and to discuss ways to ornament the tunes. We are always in need of hosts for a house session, it's fun to fill your house with fiddlers so why not give it a try?

Thanks to our volunteers who have been working on getting the sheet music on the Tunes page updated. As of this week we have added the OCBS set number to the top of each of the individual set PDF, and updated the Set List file. There is also a single big file with all the sets from 1 to 52 plus a cover page and table of contents. This file is designed to be printed all at one time two-sided, and all the two page sets will end up on facing pages. The work will continue, in particular we hope to work on fixing up some of the transcription errors, missing repeat signs etc. over the next while. You can always find out what changed when by looking at the change log on the Tunes page.

Sep 16—Pub Session: 2pm-5pm -Grace O'Malley's East Coast Pub 1151 Ogilvie Road Google Map  Website A down home style social gathering, this session is a great place to meet up with friends over a pint or cup of tea while listening to a varied group of musicians play traditional Cape Breton, Irish and Scottish tunes. All players of fiddles, guitars, mandolins, whistles, accordions etc. welcome to join in. This session is mostly group playing with a few solos, let us know if you have something special to share with the group. Sheet music permitted.  Generally a pretty fast pace.

Sep 23 —Reel Slooow Jam: 2pm-5pm- Hosted by TBD - may be postponed to following week, stay tuned to the website and/or Facebook group page for updates.   The Reel Slooow Jam is a gathering for those who are newish to playing fiddle (or piano or guitar) and who would like to learn Cape Breton tunes. The focus is on playing all the regular jigs and reels from the session repertoire but at a slower learning pace with more time for those who don't read music to learn by ear.

Sep 23 —House Session: 2pm-5pm- Hosted by Aylene and Brian Gracie at 125 Parkhaven Ave. Queensway to Woodroffe Northbound, left on Georgina, left on Parkhaven. Parking in driveway or on street. Google Map 613-820-1535. Practice up for next week's session at Orchard Walk Retirement Residence.   BYOB This is a  practice session, slower pace for learning new tunes. Mainly aimed at those who read music or learn by ear quickly. For intermediate/advanced players.

We are always in need of hosts for house sessions, both Reel Slooow Jam and regular house sessions. These sessions are on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month from 2pm to 5pm. As a host you would be providing space, and if possible coffee/tea and/or other non-alcoholic beverages. Providing snacks isn't mandatory, but is always appreciated as these gatherings are both practice and social time. Attendees BYOB and often contribute to snacks as well. All you need is enough space for ten or so people with instruments, and some chairs without arms. If you have a piano let us know, if you don't we'll arrange to bring along an electric keyboard. We can even bring along folding chairs if you haven't enough armless chairs. To host a regular session contact or Beth at The RSJ group is looking for hosts for the second Sunday of each month. If you can host an RSJ contact Gary at
