March News 2017
Hello ........and hoping March is treating you well!
If not, blow it a kiss and think of this........

'If a father walks out of the house and he can still feel his daughter's kiss on his face all day, he's a powerful man. If a husband walks out of the house and he can still feel the imprint of his wife's arms around his body, he's invincible all day. It's the special stuff with your inner circle that makes you strong and powerful and influential. So don't miss that opportunity.
The prophet said, "There are many virtues and values, but here's the greatest: one person caring for another." There is no greater value than love.
So make sure in your busy day to remember the true purpose and the reasons you do what you do. May you truly live the kind of life that will bring the fruit and rewards that you desire'
.
Jim Rohn
Our little March bird is the Greater Striped Swallow. The greater striped swallow is 18–20 cm long. It has dark blue upperparts with a pale orange rump and a chestnut crown, nape and sides of the head. The underparts and underwing coverts are creamy white with dark streaking, and the upper wings and underwing flight feathers are blackish-brown. The blackish tail has very long outer feathers; these are slightly longer in the male than the female. Juveniles are duller and browner, with less contrast and shorter outer tail feathers. The flight is slow and buoyant, and the call is a twittering chissickIt feeds mainly on flying insects, but has been known to eat small fruits. It is a bird of dry open country, such as grassland, and has a preference for hills and mountains. It avoids more wooded areas, but is often found around human habitation.
The greater striped swallow builds a bowl-shaped mud nest with a tubular entrance on the underside of a suitable structure. The nest has a soft lining, and is often reused in later years. The nest may be built in a cave or under a rock overhang or fallen tree. This species has benefited from its willingness to use buildings, bridges, culverts and similar man-made structures. Given the choice, it will select a high nest site.
The eggs are glossy white with a few brown spots; three eggs is a typical clutch. Incubation is by the female alone for 17 to 20 days to hatching. Both parents then feed the chicks. Fledging takes another 23 to 30 days, but the young birds will return to the nest to roost for a few days after the first flight.

With more STORYTELLING in their lives, people feel better. People feel bigger. People feel enlivened and energetic, more confident, and more powerful. Stories sway people’s thoughts, feelings and actions. People find meaning in stories which help make their lives less overwhelming. Stories provide inspiration and the possibilities of personal transformation. With organisations an essential aspect of living, it’s no wonder that so many people are putting storytelling to work.

From Wednesday the 22nd (evening) to Sunday the 26th (lunch) of March 2017, a fun and intensive storytelling skills workshop will be taking place at the serene Sunnyside Guest Farm, located in the Free State. (For more info on Sunnyside, go to https://www.facebook.com/groups/200651323352648/)

Storytelling is the art of influence, a fundamental attribute required for effective leading, managing, marketing, selling, consulting, coaching, facilitating, teaching, lecturing and training. Anyone for whom communication is an essential aspect of their work will benefit by attending the Wonder Workshop, and:

Develop practical storytelling skills.
  • Increase confidence in public speaking and other interactions where communication is at the core.
  • Learn skills in creating new, original stories for use at work, by crafting stories for maximum impact.
  • Gain an appreciation of how storytelling differs from other forms of communication.
  • Identify the key elements of a story, distinguish different kinds of stories, and choose the right stories for different occasions.
  • Understand the common features and major differences between literal and metaphorical storytelling, and when to apply each type at work.
  • Gain knowledge of the wide variety of ways in which storytelling can be put to purposeful, prophet-able and profitable use in organizations leadership development, self-effectiveness, team building, strategic planning, diversity management, and personal and organizational change and transformation.
  • Strengthen the creative aspects of their being - inspiration, imagination, intuition and innovation.

The cost of the Wonder Workshop is R12 800 for people from the business and public sectors, with a 50% discount for self-employed individuals and those from the non-profit sector, R6 400. This includes facilitation fees and accommodation and food.

OverlandX Africa Expo is coming!
Make sure you book your ticket for the biggest overland and 4×4 event of 2017

So what exactly defines overlanding? Overland travel includes discovering remote locations, cultures other than your own and being self-reliant in unfamiliar territories for multiple days in your 4×4 vehicle. Let’s not forget that it includes spending some quality time in the great outdoors with close friends and family.
Well, with the upcoming OverlandX Africa Expo happening at The Old Mill Drift in Clarens, Free State from 31 March 2017, you’ll get to experience all that and more!
OverlandX, the brainchild of Robert Dziubdziela, was born from a passion to explore our beautiful country whilst pushing his Overland vehicle to the absolute extreme. Rob, founder of Xpedition Africa, has been an avid overlander and adventure enthusiast for most of his life.
The event is set to be the biggest of its kind with more than 150 exhibitors expected to attend. From overland and 4×4 accessories to lifestyle and adventure operators, you’ll be able to not only enjoy a weekend of remote camping in one of the most beautiful parts of South Africa, but also get to see (and purchase) the latest and greatest gear and toys on the market.
The Venue:

Nestled between the majestic Maluti Mountains, embraced by nothing but panoramic views of peaceful horizons, the crystal-clear waters of the Caledon River, and the swaying grasslands of the Eastern Free State Highlands, lies the Old Mill Drift Guest Farm.
Gifted to Colonel Hull by Queen Elizabeth II, for his bravery in the Boer War, steeped in history, this masterpiece of Mother Nature has been the canvas for many guests to create unforgettable memories. Some of the farm’s historical buildings were transformed into chalets that today offer visitors the comforts of modern living, without sacrificing the charm of yesteryear.

The farm’s fruitful landscape is enclosed in parts by forest and saturated with three natural springs, three dams (summer season only), a few small waterfalls, and various natural pools that will soak the soul of any wary traveler.
Because of its central location, The Old Mill Drift is the perfect halfway mark for 4×4 enthusiasts traveling from Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern, Northern and Western Cape.
