Dear Sisters, Associates and Sojourners,

Another month is upon us with the promise of spring and New Life! It is true that all our other issues supporting our life, justice and compassion values remain “on the table” and need our attention.

With our United Farm Workers, we remember, today, March 31 is Cesar Chavez' birthday. We are grateful for the recognition of Cesar’s struggle, which continues to grow 24 years after Cesar’s passing in 1993. On April 2, farm workers will be holding 10 Cesar Chavez marches with a resist Trump theme in CA, WA, and TX. Thousands of farm workers will take to the streets and march. Cesar once told us, “There is enough love and goodwill in our movement to give energy to our struggle and still have plenty left over to break down and change the climate of hate and fear around us."

So, Sisters, Associates and Sojourners, pray for their safety and that their cause will turn hearts in political and civil leaders to be more just!

Now, I just want to share a few advocacy possibilities and resources...
  • First, there is a good resource from Stockholm Resilience that provides a scientific perspective of “The Golden Rule” for our care of Earth in a short video:  https://youtu.be/UZ5nKGHMWC0 (just under 3 minutes!). This gives a clear picture of The Carbon Law - A roadmap for rapid decarbonisation.

  • Second, this is a new social justice resource center that you might like to visit: http://socialjusticeresourcecenter.org/ which adds a variety of topics and a user friendly search screen.

  • Also, consider for your prayer the MERCY2Earth Examin: click here.

  • And I invite you to pray special WAY OF THE CROSS for refugees and migrants (click here) and make plans to join in the EARTH DAY commemorations. And, don’t forget the April 29th climate walk!

  • The Maryknoll Office of Global Concerns provided this interesting article on the Middle East: click here.
And, finally, perhaps your senators and representatives will be in their home districts the week of April 17 and possibly holding town halls and meetings. We are encouraged to meet with them or their staff during that week and discuss with them the importance of protecting immigrants and refugees and their families. If your Congressional leader has already supported the legislation protecting immigrants and refugees listed below, call in to thank them!

Remember to call any day but especially on Fridays using the text/script provided here.

But know, your prayers are most valued during these days!

Blessings,
Sara
