Welcome to the dlr Arts Office fortnightly e-bulletin where we will keep you up to date with our vibrant and rich arts programme.  Our aim is to provide opportunities for people of all ages to engage with the arts as creators, spectators and participants.

dlr Arts Office has several exciting opportunities for Musicians, Visual Artists and Curators - see below for full details! 
Call for Musicians in Residence
Closing date: 10th of August 2015 at 12 noon
 
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council Arts Office invites applications for Musicians in Residence.
 
There will be four residencies offered from October 2015 to July 2016:
  • Jazz Music - October 2015 to January 2016
  • Classical Music – December 2015 to March 2016
  • Traditional Music – February to May 2016
  • Emerging Musicians (in any genre)– April to July 2016
The residencies are envisaged as part-time residencies specifically for the development, creation and showcasing of new work. Each residency will offer a commission fee and 20 rehearsal days in dlr LexIcon’s Studio. As part of the residency the musician/s must engage in a maximum of four performances in the dlr LexIcon Studio or other suitable venues in the county.
 
dlr Arts Office is open to applications from individuals or groups. Applicants (including all members of a group) must live, work, be originally from or have studied music in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown.
 
The Musicians in Residence scheme is managed by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council Arts Office and is grant-aided by the Arts Council.

dlr LexIcon Visual Art Commission 2016-17
Closing Date: 23rd of September 2015 at 12 noon

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council wishes to commission two visual artists to create a new body of work which will culminate in an exhibition by each artist in the dlr LexIcon Gallery.
 
The theme of each commission is to create a new body of work that is responsive to Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County.  Applicants are invited to engage with the geographic, cultural and/or social context of the area.
 
Two artists will be selected by way of an open submission selection process.  Each artist will be paid a commission of €10,000 and will be given an agreed period of time to undertake the commission. The resultant artworks will be displayed in the dlr LexIcon Gallery over a five to seven week period in 2016 or 2017.

These visual arts commissions are funded by the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council and the Arts Council.

Call out for Visual Arts Learning Curator
Closing Date: 6th of August 2015 at 12 noon 

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council is seeking expressions of interest from professional Visual Arts Learning Curators who have experience in creating opportunities for the general public to engage with artworks and exhibitions and wish to partner with dlr Arts Office to apply for the Arts Council’s Visual Arts Curator Residency Scheme.

dlr Arts Office wish to make an application in response to the Arts Council’s call for Visual Arts Curator Residency Scheme focusing on the development of dlr’s Municipal Gallery Learning Programme for 2016. We are looking for a Visual Arts Learning Curator to develop this application in partnership with dlr Arts Office.

Sightless Cinema: Arts & Disability Public Art Commission
 
dlr Arts Office is delighted to present a new public art commission. White Cane Audio Theatre is a group of blind and visually impaired participants led by theatre director/devisor Ciarán Taylor with radio programme maker and composer Rachel Ni Chuinn. The group met over a period of nine months to explore audio as a means of shared expression. Sightless Cinema is a presentation of some of the work generated during the project.

The cast included Gerda Archer, Carol Brill, Eileen Brennan, Andre Dorgan, John Griffith, Una Keane, Marie Kirker, Anthony MacDonald and Audrey Tormey.
 
The project was facilitated by NCBI Services– Working for People with Sight Loss, and was funded by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council as part of the Per Cent for Art Programme under the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government.

Special Music Workshops for young children
and their parents/guardians facilitated by Eamon Sweeney.

These very special workshops will explore and demonstrate easily-learned techniques, games and songs for developing musical skills, sensitivity and confidence in young children.  A great way to spend time with your child in a fun and relaxed environment.  An adult must accompany each child.

Date:Saturday 8th August
Time:10.15-11.00am 2-3 year olds/
11.30-12.15pm 3-4 year olds

All workshops are free but space is limited
