Selina Guinness announced as dlr Writer in Residence 2015-2016

Selina Guinness is a writer, editor, lecturer and farmer. She was born in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown and continues to live and work in the county. She lectures in English literature in the Humanities Department at IADT.  Her memoir about her life and farm at Tibradden, The Crocodile by the Door, was published by Penguin Ireland in 2012, and shortlisted for the Costa Book Awards 2012 (Best Biography).

Throughout her residency Selina will be working on The Pale Project. We all know where we live but we don’t always get the chance to consider what it means to inhabit a place, and how it might shape us. The Pale Project aims to do just that. In a series of dedicated workshops, lectures and public events, this year’s residency will focus on dwelling and thinking in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown.  For further information on Selina Guinness please see the Read More Link.

Winners of 'The Long Road To Longitude' Battle of the Bands

With the support of dlr Arts Office, CANVAS the Youth Arts Committee based at the Grainstore, have been hosting 'The Long Road To Longitude” Battle of the Bands, in collaboration with MCD records since May 10th.

Over six weeks, local musicians have been battling it out to win one of three places to play at ‘Longitude Music Festival’ Marley Park this July.

‘The Long Road To Longitude Grand Final' took place on Sunday 14th June and the event was unforgettable.  The sun was shining, the stage was rocking, and the acts were all amazing.  Over 500 people attended and experienced the wealth of talent that young musicians from Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown have to offer.  After a fantastic day and a lot of deliberation from the judges we are pleased to announce that the three winners to play Longitude are:

MADISON FRONT - With instantly catchy original compositions and natural ease, Madison Front proved they belong on the big stage.

DEAD SETS - The blues are back in town.  Old school blues rock with a new school twist; these guys are certainly going places.

LEVEL HEADS - Words can't describe just how talented this band is.  We advise you to buy a ticket for “Longitude” just to see them.
