Hello Neighbor!

Dear Seattle Farmers Market Community,

The Ballard Farmers Market is excited to announce a few changes to our Operations effective this Sunday, June 28, 2020. These changes will allow easier access to our neighborhood businesses, provide space for some of our long term farmers and processors, while still respecting social distancing guidelines and public health.

What has changed?

The drive through option will be for preorders only from 9:00am-9:50am

General Shopping for on-foot customers only will be from 10:00am-2:00pm

The Market Entrances:

For cars, please enter Ballard AVE NW from NW Dock Place. Cars will move in a one-way direction on Ballard AVE NW and exit on NW Market Street. We will have staff present to support and direct traffic.

If you are on-foot then enter Ballard AVE NW off of 22nd AVE NW or from NW Vernon Place.

Booths will face both the east and west sidewalk of Ballard AVE NW in a checkerboard style for social distancing. We will have an updated map on our website before this Sunday. Visit our Ballard Farmers Market website here

The safety and health of our shoppers, farmers, and staff is SFMA’s primary concern as we revise our current operations and we continue to act to ensure the safest access to fresh and nutritious food from local producers. Our health and safety measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19 include (but are not limited to):

All staff, vendors and customers are required to wear a mask (we will have masks available at all market entrances)

No sampling, no selling ready-to-eat food, no refilling reusable containers

Emphasis on pre-paid orders

Contactless payment methods (i.e.: Apple pay, Venmo)

Segregation of money/market currency and food handling

Social distancing pavement markers (6 feet) with clear signage

Hand washing and changing gloves after every transaction

Limitation of the number of shoppers and time spent shopping

Banning the public from touching produce (vendors to select and bag product) with modified booth set-up (i.e.: ropes, straps, tables, cones, sneeze guards)

Safety signage at entrance points, exits and booths

Disinfect all “high-touch” surfaces frequently

While farmers markets are often social spaces, it is important not to confuse this as the primary purpose. Our commitment to this community is to support Washington’s small family farms and ensuring food access for all.  We believe that open-air farmers markets (with transparent and short supply chains) can be the safest and best way to obtain food during this crisis. We will continue to work with our community and all stakeholders to ensure that social distancing is enforced and to continuously improve safety measures and operations. We will continue to work closely with King County/City of Seattle public health officials and our partners in the City of Seattle. Thank you again for your support, we look forward to providing fresh and local nutritious food to you and your family this Sunday, June 28
