Happy almost First Mother's Day to Sam
of Wilson Fish, Alvarez Organic Farm, & Kettle Corn at Ballard!

What's New at Ballard, Wallingford, & Madrona?

Summer gleaning is just around the corner at the Sustainable Ballard's Market Gleaning Project. We are looking for volunteers to help collect donations of produce from the Sunday Ballard Farmers Market and sort the produce at the Ballard Food Bank.  The commitment is from 2:45pm to 5pm on Sundays. This project is such a rewarding effort for all the volunteers involved. It is a great opportunity for people who are interested in keeping good produce out of the compost bin and getting it to our Ballard neighbors in need. We collect the extra produce the farmers don’t want to take home from participating vendors, and deliver it to the nearby Ballard Food Bank, thus supplying them with fresh, local and generally organic produce.  Teams rotate depending on numbers every 3-4 weeks.  Interested gleaners should contact Katie, ktshinn@outlook.com.
Liberation Bakery is bringing the vegan, paleo, and gluten free treats to the Madrona Farmers Market this summer! This cheesecake is vegan and Kate has several varities to choose from.
Wallingford welcomes Hierophant Meadery to the market!
Featured Vendor
Forestlife Dean: A Tale of the Inspired Businessman

Forestlife Dean has been a vendor at Ballard for over a decade. As you are meandering through the market you may see many shoppers and vendors wearing a similar (yet always totally unique) pair of reclaimed wood earrings. Recently I called Dean to pick his brain for a few minutes; the inviting conversationalist had plenty to say!
"Every month I make a new product. If I made stuff that didn't sell I'd be an artist. I'm an inspired businessman." Dean explains, when I ask him about his inventory. His earrings have been featured in periodicals, and he produces special batches for various accounts in all 50 states.
The path to making reclaimed wood earrings did not start in a jewelry class, but rather, a marine carpentry class at Seattle Central College. A business teacher that saw the fire in Dean and pushed him to become an entrepreneur. Thousands of earrings later, we're chatting about why we love the Ballard Farmers Market.
"I can always count on the people of Ballard for feedback. The shoppers at Ballard care about their bodies and their community. That's why I love this market."
Next time you visit Ballard, make sure to look for Forestlife Dean, and his earrings, dotting the landscape of the market crowd.
