MMAMTA Newsletter

September 2015

Greetings MMAMTA Members! Getting back into the swing of things and seeing all our students return is an exciting time. We are starting the year strong with lots of events and concerts. I hope you will take full advantage of all the MMAMTA/MMTA/MTNA events as part of your membership. I look forward to seeing many of you at our Fall Workshop on September 12th!

MMAMTA Fall Workshop

Please RSVP by Wednesday, September 10th, if you are planning on attending and remember to bring a side dish to share!

Directions to Beverly Kyriakos Studio:
Click here for a google map.

You have to get on Scott Blvd.  It runs north and south and is accessible from W. Broadway  and from the south: Chapel Hill; also Nifong (Vawter School Rd., Grindstone--take your pick--all the same road). Rollins Road also leads to Scott Blvd.  It actually becomes Smith Dr. after you cross Scott Blvd.

Get on Scott Blvd.  Turn (west) on Smith Dr.  Go almost to end of Smith and turn Right on Silverthorne, then Left on Knollwood Ct. to103 Knollwood Ct.  We are the last house on the left.  Please carpool.  Our street is a short cul-de-sac. Not much parking.

Just come in the front door (the studio door leads downstairs) to deposit your "dish" in the kitchen.  No need to ring the doorbell--it upsets the dog.  (She will be barking anyway, of course).

MMAMTA Handbook

The MMAMTA Handbook is ready! If you would like a hard copy, please let me know by Friday, September 7thI will bring them with me at the workshop. I will only print as many copies as requested. An electronic version of the handbook will be available on our website soon.

MU Piano Ped Student needs your help!

One of my undergraduate students is working on a pedagogical project and would love your responses to a questionnaire about teaching piano duets/duos/chamber music. It should only take just a few minutes of your time and her and I both appreciate your response! Here is a message from her:

My name is Joy Martin and for my Senior Recital this Fall, I am studying different piano duets, a piano duo and an ensemble piece by pedagogical composers. I will analyze each piece, document process of practicing and performing, and then present at my recital the information that I have gathered along with performing the piece.

I would really appreciate your expertise and advice on this subject regarding your own students and your experience working on piano duets/duos or ensemble pieces. I have created a google form with a few questions about student learning, teaching and performing piano duets/duos together. Click here to access the questionnaire.

Please respond by Friday, Sep. 11th. All who complete the survey will be entered into a drawing at the MMAMTA workshop on Friday, Sep. 12th. The drawing will be for a $5 Starbucks gift card!!

Thank you all again for your help and advice for this project. If you wish to call me instead of filling out the form, my phone number is 573-239-6339. You can also reach me by email: jkmdmb@mail.missouri.edu.

I hope to see you at the MMAMTA workshop!
