Dear MMAMTA Members,

Happy February! This month brings us many musical performances and I hope you will take advantage of all that mid-Missouri has to offer.

Thank you to everyone who participated in our Semi-Annual Teachers' Recital and to Ruth and Beverly for helping with the organization of the event!

  • 1 (Mon) - MMAMTA Musicathon time request deadline
    1 (Mon), 7:30pm - MU Guest Artist Series: Daniel Schene Piano Recital. Free Admission. Whitmore Recital Hall, MU School of Music in Columbia.
  • 8 (Mon), 7:30pm - MU Faculty Series: Peter Miyamoto Piano Recital. Program includes Beethoven Sonata Op. 110, Brahms Sonata No. 3. Admission $5, MU faculty and students free with I.D. Whitmore Recital Hall, MU School of Music in Columbia.
  • 11-13 (Thur-Sat), 7:30pm and 14 (Sun), 4pm - CMU Opera Workshop presents "A Valentine Toast to Opera & Musicals," Kountz Recital Hall, Swinney Conservatory of Music, Central Methodist University, Fayette. General Admission $7/ CMU Faculty, Staff & Seniors $5/All students $2.
  • 15 (Mon), 7:30pm - MU Faculty Series: Missouri Quintet. Admission $5, MU faculty and students free with I.D. Whitmore Recital Hall, MU School of Music in Columbia.
  • 19 (Fri), 7pm - Odyssey Chamber Music Series: Elizabethan Baroque, featuring Vox Nova and Bach Collegium Choir with conductor R. Paul CrabbPaul Seitz on lute with soprano, Christine Seitz, and guitarist Anthony Glise. Admission $20 / $10 Student with I.D. First Baptist Church in Columbia

Vocal/Piano Workshop at CMU

The Swinney Conservatory at Central Methodist University is hosting its Invitational Vocal Solo/Ensemble and Piano Workshop for High School Students on Thursday, March 10th, 2016.  The workshop is designed for outstanding junior or senior high school vocal and piano students who are planning to participate in solo/ensemble festivals this spring. Registration will occur in the Kountz Recital of the Swinney Conservatory from 8:30-9:00 a.m. with the day’s events concluding at 3:45 p.m.  This workshop will give these students the opportunity to be coached on piano solos and vocal solos and ensembles for contest within a masterclass setting.
The workshop will accommodate 34 vocal soloists, 12 piano soloists and 15 vocal ensembles.  Each school teacher will be able to register 4 (plus 1 alternate) vocal soloists and 3 (plus 1 alternate) ensembles. Each school or private piano instructor may register two piano students. Alternates will be registered as scheduling allows and those registering first will be scheduled first.
Vocal/choral questions should be directed to Dr. Susan Quigley-Duggan  and piano questions to Dr. Melissa Loehnig  The registration form is due by Friday, February 26, 2016.
