CEC regrets decision over Hagia Sophia, engages with UNESCO and the European Institutions

The Conference of European Churches has witnessed the recent decision of Hagia Sophia’s conversion into a mosque with deep regret. The regional ecumenical organisation, representing 114 Member Churches across Europe, many of them Orthodox churches, raised its concern last week with the European Institutions and UNESCO, following a hearing by the Turkish Council of State. Virtual Summer School explores human rights in the times of COVID-19

Challenges for human rights in the times of COVID-19 was a theme sharp in focus at the 7th virtual Summer School on Human Rights. The event gathered over 130 participants including church leaders, academics, experts from the international organisations and the European institutions from across Europe in a series of webinars. The Church Action on Labour and Life (CALL) Network will hold the conference “Wellbeing of Digitalized Societies and Work Place” from 11 to 13 March 2021, at the Cultural Center Saint-Thomas in Strasbourg. CALL is a Europe-wide network that seeks to address employment and related economic and social issues. Learn more

European Christian Environmental Network Assembly

The Assembly of the European Christian Environmental Network (ECEN), addressing the theme “Reconciled with Creation: a Call for Urgent Action on Climate and Biodiversity” will be held from 28 May to 2 June 2021 at the Evangelical Academy Bad Herrenalb, Germany. Read more

European Regional Pre-Assembly for WCC 11th Assembly [POSTPONED]

CEC’s European Regional Pre-Assembly to be held ahead of the World Council of Churches (WCC) 11th Assembly is now being postponed due to the related COVID-19 uncertainties. New dates will be announced in due time. Read more
