Greetings Everyone - Our web site continues to be updated with more information, please send us any updates that should be included / corrected: (Shelley Reid Salmons

SOS went "public" this week with an extremely successful Yates Town Board meeting on Thursday, January 8th.  The meeting was attended by approximately 50 full-time (lakeshore and non-lakeshore) and seasonal residents (one person from Canada, others from as far away as Washington, DC).  Initially, Cathi Orr addressed the board regarding her experiences in Wyoming County and the environmental/social destruction wrought by the installation of an Industrial Wind Turbine complex in Varysburg/Orangeville, NY.  In her closing comments, she implored the Board to execute detailed due diligence on the proposed APEX project and to understand the destruction they would be signing up for in approving an Industrial Wind Turbine Project in the Town of Yates.

At that point, John Riggi presented the SOS position on the proposed Industrial Wind Turbine Complex known as "Lighthouse Wind," stressing that SOS is committed to ensuring the Yates Town Board is fully informed on Industrial Wind Turbines and the damage (Environmental, Health, Wildlife, Social, Property Values, etc.) this proposal would have on our community.  The presentation ended with two questions to the Board and a request for a written response on each:
1).  Who are the decision makers on this project?
2).  What is the process moving forward from this point?

The presentation has been added to our web site.

Mr. Roger Barth, attorney and resident, addressed the Board on his plan to review and circulate concerns regarding potential pitfalls for landowners in APEX land lease agreements.  Mr. Barth indicated that landowners need to review the concerns documented with their attorneys prior to signing any lease agreement with APEX.

At that point, 10-15 attendees addressed the board on their concerns regarding this issue.  All were effective in communicating their opposition to the Lighthouse Wind Project in support of the SOS presentation.

This was certainly an auspicious beginning.

However, we need to capitalize on the momentum we've gained.  So, your help is critical with the following action items:
1).  Please write our town, county, state and federal legislators about your opposition to the Lighthouse Wind Project.  The more our legislators hear from us, the higher the probability Article 10 will be used in our favor.  The legislator links are on the website.
2).  Please begin sending letters to the editors of: The Buffalo News, The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, The Lockport Union Sun and Journal, The Batavia Daily News (official newspaper of the Yates Town Board), The Orleans Hub, and The Lake Country Pennysaver.  The links will be made available on the website this week.
3).  We will be having a team meeting within the next two weeks and are reaching out to you in order to request your help.  If you can help us, please volunteer via the Contact Us form on our website.
4).  Our Niagara County neighbors are in need of our support! Niagara County is a critical battlefield in this fight! If the Lighthouse Wind Project is not approved in Niagara County, it will not move to Orleans County! There is a Town Board meeting in Somerset this coming Wednesday evening, January 14th at 6:30pm at the Somerset Town Hall, 8700 Haight Rd, Barker, NY 14012.  There is also a Planning Board meeting for the Town of Yates on January 13 at 7pm.
5).  Please begin writing comments on the New York Public Service Commission Website regarding your opposition to the Lighthouse Wind Project.  NY PSC Website:

The fight has begun!

Best Regards,
John Riggi
