Dear Friends and Neighbors,

SOS is making a new effort to get out regular newsletters to keep everyone informed of what has happened and what is coming up.  Here's an update on the progress Save Ontario Shores has made, with your help, in the last year.  We have spread the word throughout the area and official opposition to Apex's Lighthouse Wind project has mounted steadily. Public officials and representative bodies, standing for approximately 1.3 million Western New Yorkers, include:
The Somerset Town Board
The Yates Town Board
Representative Chris Collins– US House of Representatives
State Senator Robert Ortt
State Assemblyman Steve Hawley
The Niagara County Legislature
The Orleans County Legislature
The Erie County Legislature

In addition, SOS has contacted a number of organizations, many of whom support green energy, and they have recognized Lighthouse Wind as being the wrong project for the proposed site. Concerns include bird migration, endangered bats and our own health.  Their letters to oppose the project can be found at: DPS Documents.  The Lighthouse Wind Preliminary Scoping Statement was filed in November. SOS held a public event in Barker to educate the community; then SOS and both towns responded with a flood of substantial comments which now are being considered by Apex.  We will keep you posted on this New York State Article 10 process.

The Town of Somerset has taken into consideration worries voiced about property values and setbacks, among others, and has included such concerns in a proposed revision of the following law: Somerset Proposed Town Law.

Have you spotted an owl or eagle? We encourage any photographers to note the location and date of bird photographs. Please email SOS at the below contact link with date, location and time.

We greatly appreciate the continuing support and look forward to working with everyone who wants to lend a hand. Feel free to email SOS if you are interested in taking a more active part of the effort.  Together we must continue to fight this project that threatens to forever alter the character of area and is entirely out of keeping with the rural nature of the towns of Somerset and Yates.
