Brent and Ross from Wattblock have been busy with the muru-D trade mission to China over the past 2 weeks.

It was an exciting trip making lots of connections in a very large market. Air pollution in China's cities is creating demand for clean and environmental technologies with strong public interest.

Here are some of the highlights:

  • Met local incubator, Chinaccelerator
  • Briefing with local angel investor
  • Local property manager escorted us on a residential building tour
  • Drank coffee at the IPO club
  • Met members of Shenzhen government
  • Established new contacts in LED lighting and smart meter industries
  • Amazed with the smart city vision for Qianhai
  • Met Tencent, the world's 4th largest internet company makers of WeChat (Facebook + Whatsapp + Google Maps + Uber + Paypal in one application for Chinese users, 200m of which were online while we visited)
  • Visited local incubators, accelerators and technology parks undergoing massive construction projects
  • Engaged 17 storey residential building for energy assessment and upgrade plan
  • Featured in China Daily and Technode publications
  • Impromptu pitch at Chinaccelerator's 8 x 8 event in front of VC's, angels and other startups

On the homefront, we have been listed as a finalist in the StartupSmart Awards for "Best Social Change Entrepreneur" category which will be held in Melbourne. Meanwhile our customer building retrofits are now under way with energy efficiency products received and installed on site.
Our customer engagement starts with a free report identifying energy waste in buildings. If you have not already done so, we recommend you create a Wattblock Report for an Australian building.
