If you’re someone who already practices yoga, this is a great chance to streamline your schedule; no need to carve out time at home or another gym, just cruise up to Redline at any of the appointed times and squeeze in a session before or after your normal class. (The Wednesday practice is right after Open Mat)
For those who have never tried yoga, and are wondering why it would be a good addition to their training, Lili says the crosstraining perks of yoga speak for themselves.
“Stress relief, injury prevention, improved flexibility, strength and muscle tone are just a few of the many benefits a regular yoga practice can offer.”
“In jiu jitsu I feel there is a need to be really open through your hips, shoulders and upper back. Increased flexibility in those areas could deepen one’s skill level. The constant breath practice helps with staying focused and present in the moment.”
Lili’s classes are also encouraging, judgment-free zones for the flexibility-challenged beginner; people of all ability levels are welcome.
“Bottom line is, everyone can benefit from a yoga practice,” Lili says. “Young or old, spiritual or not, yoga teaches us to be in the now.”
