From the Chair..

We are very fortunate as a camera club to have an active judge in our membership. Someone who knows about judging and delivering at the sharp end with many clubs every season.  So it was great to have Cat Humphries lead our latest workshop evening entitled ‘Judging Images’ an evening designed give an appreciation of the intricacies of judging Images. Cat talked us through the judging thought process, accompanied by an excellent power point slide show.

In addition, armed with the pointers she shared with us, we were able to become the judges on the night, in an Interactive mock competition of her demonstration Images. This was enabled using ‘Zoom’ and phone voting.  A thoroughly enjoyable evening which sparked plenty of healthy debate in this sometimes contentious area.

Armed with this additional knowledge (plenty of Information on our website) we have now Invited club entries into an Internal competition where we all become the judges and go through the judging thought process to vote for a winner.  Our next workshop night on the 18th March will review the outcome of this peer reviewed competition.

Overall this time spent gaining knowledge and Insight into judging will help us all in our own photography work, as we consider our Images for competition entry.

Croxley into new External Competition!

Tring & District Camera Club have launched a new interclub competition that celebrates the growing interest in the genre of ‘Intimate Scapes'.

Croxley will be one of 12 clubs in the CACC region taking part. Each club will enter 5 Intimate Scapes, each taken by a different photographer.  A sixth ‘tie breaker’ image will also be supplied and this can be taken by another photographer, or one of those chosen for the main 5 images. There will also be a prize for the best club and the author of the best image. The first competition evening is set for Thursday 24th March 2022 and will be held at The Baptist Hall in Tring. Up to 6 members of each participating club are welcome to attend.

So what is an 'Intimate Scape'?  Let's look at the brief...

"An intimate scape is one in which you’re selecting and isolating one small part of a scene that captures your interest and presents an ‘intimate feel’. It might be a smaller part of a wider scape, it might also be a smaller composition that focuses on shapes, lines, colours, textures or patterns. It is a view of a scene in which any object of focus, is surrounded by its context."

The final list of Participants are:
Croxley, Ealing, Field End, Harpenden, ImageZ, Kidlington, Leighton Buzzard, Maidenhead, Oxford, Pinner, Princes Risborough, Wallingford, Woodley & Tring.  No Watford or Amersham!

More to follow.

New Event - Online Talk

Remote Photoshoots Worldwide by Natasha J Bella
15th April 2021

Natasha talks to us about the development and progress of remote photoshoots, which is a way for models and photographers to work together over long-distances.  Remote, or 'virtual' photoshoots have become popular in the last 12 months as photographers all over the world have found their hobby curtailed by Covid-19 restrictions.

Based in her Leeds studio, she has worked with over hundreds of photographers from Slovenia, Finland, France, Spain, Germany, Switzerland, Israel, Thailand, Singapore, Canada, China & the USA.

Showcasing the images demonstrating what is possible and the creativity achieved, Natasha will talk us through the technical aspects and follow with a practical demonstration.

This event has been added to the program and represents an additional cost to the club.  The committee would therefore be very grateful for any contributions from members to help cover the cost.  If you would be happy to contribute a small amount to the cost of this event, please do so using the club banking information below;
