From the Chair...

As photographers we are always trying to tell a story through our Images to make them more appealing, perhaps something which evokes emotion, but always trying to put an original interpretation on them. It’s not always easy in a single Image to convey the message that we are trying to get across.

Our latest challenge for our first virtual workshop of the season was a photo challenge ‘2020 Diptych or Triptych’ what have you been photographing or reflections of the year so far. Therefore using 2 or 3 images presented as a single Image to help demonstrate the story through Images that work together.

Our members always seem to relish a challenge and produced an Interesting selection of topics for the evening, producing a mixture of both Triptych and Diptych Images.

Naturally our current situation regarding Coronavirus figured high in the material, with some great Image stories reflecting how our lives have changed during this period.
Once again our talented membership provided us with Images that documented and reflected both a story and emotions, both poignant and in some cases humorous reflections of the period of 2020 so far.

As with previous challenges, each author gave a narrative while their Image was projected using a shared screen as part of the ‘Zoom’ online meeting, while members were able to comment on the various aspects of the work.

Thank you to everyone that attended the meeting and a special thanks to those that managed to put together their excellent Images, to give us such an enjoyable and Interactive night.

Thank you to all of our members that participated in last weekend's Portrait Social with the fabulous Irida.  We were treated to some wonderful weather, with no plan 'B' needed, and a terrific afternoon of portrait and fashion photography.  We're all very excited to see some of the images from Saturday's Social in competition later this season!

Special thanks to Ian Bennell for this super behind the scenes shot, captured in Infrared!

The Last Pentaxian in Croxley!
Part Three

Long serving club and committee member Cat Humphries is kindly writing a series for us on her camera gear experiences. Sneak Peak of the first instalment below – enjoy!

First Impressions and Testing Times;

Bump! That was me falling back down to earth. The dreams of a Nikon set-up had carried me away, but the cost involved in making the switch soon made me come tumbling down.

One of the things that attracted me to Pentax was the sheer number of lenses available, and the reasonable cost of second-hand gear. Yes, I know the pre-loved kit was because no-one wanted them, but like my two rescue pups, I can’t bear to see things being abandoned.

I’ve been a bit of a magpie when it comes to Pentax gear. My other half....

At this time of year Field End Photographic Society would be holding its annual print exhibition at the Cow Byre in Ruislip, where each member is invited to exhibit up to four prints of their own choosing. The exhibition would be open to the general public for a period of two weeks, where we would expect hundreds of visitors to attend over that time, and each visitor would be invited to vote for their two favourite images, with the winner receiving an award.

Given the current situation, we have obviously had to cancel this year’s exhibition being held physically, so have decided to host the exhibition online at the following website http://www.exhibition2020.fieldendps.co.uk/

Your members are therefore invited to visit our online 2020 exhibition and vote for their two favourite images via the survey link on the final page of the exhibition.

Thank you for sharing this with your members and let’s hope we return to normal as soon as it is safe.

 In the meantime, stay safe.
