Hello all
Well I've been talking about my exciting new paper pieced blocks for some time now......and I am pleased to say they're now on offer and ready for you all to get excited about too!
Introducing Old Time Kaleidoscope Blocks

These stunning and elegant blocks are created by using the English Paper Piecing method. The whole of each design is comprised using only one shape!.

With clever fussy cutting and fabric placement, this one simple shape can come together to form the lovely detailed pattern reminiscent of looking through a kaleidoscope in a time gone by……….hence Sandy’s name for her new blocks……The Old Time Kaleidoscope Blocks!

To fit with the style of yesteryear, Sandy has chosen reproduction fabrics  ie designs printed today using patterns as seen in vintage quilts.

The finished result is a block in the shape of a hexagon, surrounded by a lovely old-fashioned shirting fabric. Blocks will join together, as in the above photo, to create a unique and highly detailed quilt top. Instructions and ideas on the way to finish your quilt will be delivered during the journey.

It is envisaged that there will be a total of 18 Old Time Kaleidoscope blocks to create a single sized quilt, and of course for those who wish to continue to grow their quilt to a larger size I will keep going with my block creations so you end up with a quilt to suit your needs. There will be a new block released each month. Each block measure 14" across the diameter, and each side of the hexagon measures 7".

......and just a thought, if you'd like to move more quickly with your quilt you could always incorporate 2 of each of the blocks and scatter them across your quilt., what's the deal?

Each Block Kit is $30, and comes with all the fabric, exactly as pictured, all 72 papers you will need for the block, a photo of the finished block, and photo/s showing how to fussy cut the tricky bits......AND.....I'll send it to you in Australia with Free Shipping......

There is a joining kit for each person wishing to join me in the Old Time Kaleidoscope Journey. This joining kit  is in effect your starter pack including the cutting template, and easy to follow instructions and photos explaining block construction, as well as English Paper Piecing Instructions using Sandy's preferred method.
This joining kit is a mere $15, great value as the instructions given in the pack are relevant for each block, and of course you will use your template heaps to cut 72 shapes for each block!! 'tis.......

....but wait there's more.......

There are a few tools which you will find very useful with the fussy cutting required to create the Old Time Kaleidoscope Blocks. A fussy cutting viewer, used in conjunction with a Fussy Cutting Mirror can really take the guesswork out of getting those tricky cuts how you want them. If you follow the images below, you can see how the process works.

Simply place the viewer on fabric, open and align the mirror along the cut-out edges (Oh wow! you will be thinking as you see the shape repeated in the mirror as it will be once you make the cut in that spot). Not looking good? Just move the whole set-up to where you like it. Once you've decided on the placement, take the mirror away and use a marker to slide along the inside of the cut shape. I like the Clover White Marking Pen for dark fabrics (iron erasable), and the Sewline Air Erasable Pen for light fabrics (disappears over time). In the image, I have marked the dark fabric with the White Marking Pen......

Too easy!!
And just for all my newsletter subscribers, any of the abovementioned tools appearing in the Old Time Kaleidoscope Blocks category will be sent for free too.......just add them with your Block One order and don't forget to pop the 'OTK 1' code in at the cart.

As usual life is busy here, but I did steal away a day to visit the Brisbane Craft and Quilt Fair this week.....lots of inspiration.....and a few little goodies came home with me!

I do hope you like my new Old Time Kaleidoscope Blocks.....I'll be back soon with the next Lucy Boston Block....
Happy Sewing......
