Research - The lived experience of recovery in borderline personality disorder: a qualitative study
Research paper Australian research published in May 2019 looks at the stages of recovery and the processes. Results indicate the key ingredients are hope, engagement in the recovery journey and with treatment services, plus meaningful activities and relationships. This open access article is by Australian researchers Fiona Ng (now in UK), Michelle Townsend and Catilin Miller of Project Air Wollongong and Mahlie Jewell, Sydney, who has lived experience.

Research - Treatment of personality disorder using a whole of service stepped care approach
Stepped Model of CareProject Air research showed that using a whole service stepped care model of treatment for personality disorder significantly reduces demand on hospital services. Brief interventions of a 12 week treatment program can be as effective for some people as long term programs. Studies are also showing that many treatment types are effective - DBT, Schema, Mentalisation (MBT), Tranference-Focused Psychotherap (TFP), Cognitive Analytic Therapy for Youth (CAT), General Psychiatric Management (GPM) and the Conversational Model. The approach in this study was informed by key recommendations of the NHMRC Clinical Practice Guidelines for BPD. View presentation and  Read research

Petition - 40 funded Better Access visits per year for BPD
ValidatedCurrently there are just over 11,500 signatures on change.org. Help us to make the next milestone – 15,000! Encourage your family and friends and colleagues (maybe even your Doctor) to sign and keep the momentum going. The petition is requesting an increase in the number of funded visits for treating BPD by the MBS Better Access to Mental Health Initiative, from 10 sessions to 40 sessions, for BPD and other complex mental illnesses. We plan to deliver the petition to Greg Hunt MP, who remains Australia's Minister for Health after the recent election.
