Victorian Mental Health System Royal Commission
Last month the Victorian Government announced the Terms of Reference for the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System – the first of its kind in Australia – and a great opportunity! There was very strong feedback from 8,000 community members who gave their opinions about the importance of the final Terms of Reference. This provides the direction for the Royal Commission. They asked for investigation into ways to prevent mental illness and intervene earlier, to provide better access to high-quality and safe mental health services, and to connect mental health services with other health and social services. There will be more opportunities to share stories for people with a lived experience of mental illness, their family members and carers. Read more

Awareness Raising - BPD in Comedy Festival Performances
We love a good news story about BPD! In 2015 Beth McMullen spoke to ABC Newcastle in Emotionally Raw about BPD and her therapy. She declared a burgeoning ambition to be an actress in the future. Since then she has acted and produced several shows, and is now appearing in her own Comedy performance Girl, Schminterschmupted, showing in Melbourne (April) and Sydney (May). Review of Feb show in Adelaide Fringe Festival. Photo credit to Clare Hawley.
BPD Fundraiser - Grill'd Burgers Applecross (WA)
For the entire month of March, BPD Foundation WA is on a Local Matters jar at Grill’d - Applecross. (Ardross, Perth, WA)
Local Matters is the Grill’d community donation program that sees each Grill’d restaurant donate $500 back into the community every month. The donation is split between 3 local community groups $300 / $100 / $100. HOW CAN YOU HELP?
We’d love your support in receiving the highest $300 donation! Simply head to Grill’d Applecross during March for a burger and pop your Local Matters token in our jar. The group with the most tokens at the end of the month receives the largest donation. It’s a simple (and delicious) way to show your support! You’ll find us on a jar at Grill’d Applecross, 18 Risely Street Ardross, WA
Petition - 40 funded Better Access Visits for BPD
Currently there are just over 9,000 signatures on change.org. Help us to make the next milestone – 10,000! Encourage your family and friends and colleagues (maybe even your Doctor) to sign and keep the momentum going. The petition is requesting an increase in the number of funded visits for treating BPD by the MBS Better Access to Mental Health Initiative, from 10 sessions to 40 sessions, for BPD and other complex mental illnesses. We plan to deliver the petition to Federal Minister Greg Hunt MP early in 2019. Download & Print or Sign Online
Online Resource - Personality Disorders
This American website outlines Personality Disorders in a very clear and helpful manner. It is well written and informative, providing insights into the thought processes of people living with BPD, and demonstrating how difficulty controlling impulses and interpersonal difficulties affect relationships.
