FC ConferenceThe inaugural Australian Family Connections Conference was recently held in Melbourne by NEA BPD Australia. Anne Reeve, who brought the program to Australia, gave a touching tribute to Dr Perry Hoffman. Prof Daniel Flynn (Ireland), Beth McCrave, M.S (USA) and Lynn Courey (Sashbear Foundation, Canada), along with Australian clinicians shared their insights to provide a well-rounded summary of helpful interventions for people living with BPD and their families/supporters/carers. The day concluded with a panel representing the Foundation, NEA BPD, Orygen and BPD Community looking at what ‘Bringing Families into the Picture Means’ and what we need to work towards in the future.

SA Branch Members of the SA committee collected their $300 cheque from Grill'd Adelaide. Thankyou to everyone who voted for us. We are now preparing for more advocacy projects in 2020 to support the BPD community in SA. Next meeting 18 February.

Petition - 40 funded Better Access visits per year for BPD

ValidatedCurrently there are just over 15,000 signatures on Help us to make the next milestone – 20,000! Encourage your family and friends and colleagues (maybe even your GP) to sign and keep the momentum going. The petition is requesting an increase in the number of funded visits for treating BPD by the MBS Better Access to Mental Health Initiative, from 10 sessions to 40 sessions, for BPD and other complex mental illnesses.

Mentalization Based Treatment
This two-day workshop will provide an introduction to the essentials of mentalization-based treatment (MBT) for borderline personality disorder. MBT draws upon readily useable treatment ideas and practices that can be easily integrated into everyday clinical care across all health disciplines. The approach has been shown to be effective in achieving sustainable remission in BPD and is now being used at a number of centres throughout the world. This training will cover the theoretical underpinnings of MBT, describe and illustrate its therapeutic techniques, and practise skills for the application of MBT in the clinical setting.
