New Website.  New Email.  New Jack.
(and even more news...)

Today's newsletter is coming to you from  Moving from the gmail account to the new email address should help to avoid spam filters (as some have said they're discovering the newsletters in their junk folders).

Yes, that also means there is a new website for our Chicago chapter's news and event updates.  The new website, while not perfect across all devices - laptops and computers work best, phones... lets just say, not awesome - but I can't complain, it was within my personal budget.  The site includes; Alumni Profiles, letting you know when our Next Event is, who is making things happen in Movers & Shakers, other Odds & Ends, and lets you search updates by graduation year (just enter D'xx and input your year for the xx's), individual alumni, and more... Let me know what you think, the site is

Also, thank you for coming out to greet the prospective students event at Google as well as taking part in our second annual summer brunch.  Plus, many of us changed companies and received promotions in the latest Movers & Shakers.

Do you know Jack?
You may hear from or see Jack Oakes in Darden’s Advancement office in the near future.  As some of you know, Jack is a fellow Darden graduate (’89 MBA/MA in East Asian Studies).  He returned to Darden in early 2005 to work in the Career Development Center and led the office for five years as Assistant Dean for Career Development.  In July 2015, Jack joined Darden’s expanding Advancement team to work with alumni on engagement and philanthropy.  We're lucky that one of his chapter areas is Chicago, so we look forward to Jack working with us over the months and years to come.

D'15 Eric Minnick has launched AE Machines, an engineering company for designing tools to make automation design and implementation accessible to a broader group of people and businesses.  AE Design Tool allows you to design an automated system — one with hardware and software components.  After you’ve created your design, download code to power a littleBits Arduino and purchase the hardware through AE to make your design come to life.
Summer Brunch
Thank you D'14s Michael Humenanski, Allison Kelly and Amanda Middlebrooks for hosting this year's summer brunch.  We had a great turnout with plenty of food & drink (and had the chance to meet D'14 Warner Lewis' new baby).
UVA Club of Chicago

With a new class of alumni arriving to the Chicagoland, I wanted to alert the double’hoos that there is an active UVA Club of Chicago.  Darden Chicago alumni and UVA Club of Chicago work together on crossover events when applicable and we’re always invited to their events (even if we’re not also under’hoos).

To date, I’ve omitted duplicating their event invitations within the newsletters as I know many of you already receive their emails (but I’ll start adding them to our new website’s events and volunteer sections).  However, if you’re not already signed up and want to join us for dinners around town, find athletic event watch venues as well as participate in other community activities email chapter leader Kristina Hamilton CLAS’09 at to be added to the mailing list.

COMING Q1'17 : Raymond Lambert
Would you leave your successful Investment Banking career to launch a startup in an industry you have no experience?  What if your startup helped the early careers of comedian Chris Rock, Oscar winner Jamie Foxx, the tv/radio host of everything Steve Harvey, the late Bernie Mac, the great Dave Chappelle, and dozens more...  Then a documentary was made about you that earned great acclaim.  Then you become a producer and your latest movie about Maya Angelou was just selected for the 2016 Sundance Film Festival.  Sounds crazy but taking that risk is what D'87 Raymond Lambert did and he is sharing his behind the scenes entrepreneurial story with our Darden Chicago alumni.  Stay tuned as we're working on event details but you can order Raymond's book All Jokes Aside  or rent the documentary Phunny Business from Amazon... or, you can stay in that safe banking job.
