Dinner with _____

In lieu of super-sized events that are proving to be both challenging and infrequent I propose a new format: Dinner with _____ .

'Dinner with ____' would be an informal gathering that is anchored by a notable alum whereupon they would pick a day, place and time to meet for dinner (but could be anything, dining is just an example) and the first five or seven alumni that sign up get to join them.  For the event itself, everyone will be on their own for paying for food, drink, etc. (eliminating our cost and location constraints).

The time together can cover whatever topics the notable alum wants to address, e.g. career story, industry insight or hot topics, leadership, entrepreneurship, etc. with the goal to have more small group 'high touch' interactions between a cross section of alumni throughout the year.

To avoid the traps of exactly who is notable or defining what constitutes notability lets keep this simple.  If you would like to attend, let me know who from our talented and diverse alumni you would love to see across the table or join for a small group gathering.  If you would like to share your story as a notable alum, let me know and we'll coordinate the details for you to pick the day/time/place that works best for you.

Don't be shy - many of you have great stories, insights and experiences to share !!
6th Annual Summer Brunch
In 2012 we started our annual summer gathering to greet the interns, welcome recent grads and catch up with each other.  In 2015 we made this more personal as alumni stepped forward to host the event in their homes.  Kelly Becker and the class of 2008 was the first and it went great.  Last year, Michael Humenansky, Allison Kelly, and Amanda Middlebrooks with the class of 2014 kindly opened their home with flawless execution.
Anybody can host (you don't need a 14,000 sq' mansion).  Who / which class would like to step forward this year and welcome our new Chicago alumni ???
Quick Note - If you're looking for talent there are 10 First Year interns available for the remainder of the summer and 70 recent grads eager to help make a difference at your company.  Let me know if you can find a role within your organization and I'll send you the resumes or put you in touch with Darden's career center.
Thank You D'04 Larry Li !!!
In April, alumni from the city grabbed their clubs and joined our suburban peers at Top Golf Naperville.  Not only was it a lot of fun but a giant THANK YOU to  D'04 Larry Li for reaching into his own pocket and sponsoring the food, drinks and golf.  A great time !
Employment Trends - This year Chicago is host to four interns representing SC Johnson, E&Y, Excelon and Microsoft.  Our 11 recent graduates are moving to Chicago for mostly consulting at BCG (3), E&Y (2), PwC (2), Deloitte, Moelis, GoldenStone Advisors and Allstate.
Looking for VC returns?
After building a successful Angel investing track record, D'08 Nick Moran has launched his New Stack Ventures fund.  While the SEC prohibits me from actually telling you any details per arcane solicitation rules (you have to hear it directly from Nick) I can attest that this is a great opportunity if you've ever considered allocating some of your investments to VC.  While I would love to say more about how his investment thesis and fund structure is truly innovative I'll stop before I say something that gets him in trouble.  You can reach Nick via Nick@NewStack.vc or I can always make a personal introduction if you want to learn more.
D'06 Jen (Lefkowitz) Ganhal is now an Associate Director, Toddlers at Mead Johnson Nutritional
D'11 Lucas Streit is now a Director of Strategy & Planning at Priceline.com
D'15 Amiel Harper is now Founder & Principal at Morpheus Consultancy
Do you feel average?  According to the recent alumni giving data, Chicago is just average when compared among the Top 17 US alumni chapters.  Most of you know that I oppose using this platform to shill for donations but some have asked where we're at compared to other chapters so here is the most recent data showing the percent of each chapter's alumni who have donated at least $1 for the fiscal year noted (yes, even one dollar, every little bit counts).
UVA Club of Chicago

With a new class of alumni arriving to the Chicagoland, I wanted to note that there is an active UVA Club of Chicago.  Darden Chicago alumni and UVA Club of Chicago work together on crossover events when applicable and we’re always invited to their events (even if we’re not also under’hoos).  Contact Kristina Hamilton, CLAS’09, at uvaclubofchicago@gmail.com to be added to the mailing list.

For example, UVA Chicago Beach Volleyball is back.  Click here for more info.
Remember there is a new DardenAlumni.com website for our Chicago chapter's news and event updates.  The site has more information and real time updates than the newsletter, this is just the highlights.  Subscribe to stay current !
