A quiet end to 2017 - Hello 2018 !

Looking back on the chapter's 2017 activities and I feel the year ended with a shrug.  We did have a couple of high points; in April, D'04 Larry Li hosted our Naperville Top Golf event and in September, Google hosted a great reception for Scott Beardsley and the prospective students.

Yet, I apologize for the many swings and misses:
  • We were unable to find space to accommodate our evening with D'87 Raymond Lambert that fit within our $0 budget
  • The February mid-winter happy hour was a bust
  • For the first time in years, nobody stepped up to host the summer intern / alumni brunch
  • The Dinner With (alumni) campaign received zero nominations
  • The lawyers took all the fun out of writing snarky tongue-in-cheek alumni email newsletters
Sorry for the downer tone but it takes work to plan and organize these events. In 2018, I'm looking forward to others stepping up to help out and, better yet, showing up.  If you want different events or no events or new locations or fewer events (one, maybe two, a year), or just a newsletter, you have to let me know.

Alas, we press on to 2018 !
  • A winter social D'88 Jack Oakes was coordinating may happen in Q1 (or Q2)
  • Professor Jeanne Liedtka may be coming to Chicago in mid / late 2018
  • Someone will step up and host the summer intern / alumni brunch, right?
  • The Dinner With (alumni) is still a great idea and it'll happen, right?
  • The lawyers cannot silence the people !
  • The Cubs will go 162-0 :)

How do the rankings do it?
The rankings impact Darden but what do they really measure and how does that impact Darden leadership's decisions?

Darden's Mark Johnson will explain it all in a webinar on February 15 at 11:00 am (central).

Join us for dinner with _____
In lieu of super-sized events that are proving to be both challenging and infrequent Darden Chicago proposes a new format: Dinner with _____ .

I rewrote the concept so it should be easier to follow.  See below:
'Dinner with ____' would be an informal gathering of alumni to talk about... well, anything they want; career path, leadership, challenges, hot industry topics, etc.

The requirements are simple:
1.) Click here to see our local alumni (log into LinkedIn if prompted)
2.) Use the search filters to find peers that you would like to join for dinner
3.) Click here to nominate them as alum for the Dinner with _____ event

How it works after that is also simple:
Each nominee would pick a day, place and time to meet for dinner that works best for them (but the event could be anything, dining is just an example) and the first five or seven alumni that sign up get to join.

For the event itself, everyone will be on their own for paying for food, drink, etc. (eliminating our budget and location constraints).
This is a communication of the Darden Chicago Chapter Leadership Volunteers and not produced by or associated with the Darden School.  Lawyers, you're welcome.
