Second Hour This Week
This Sunday Rev. Leroy Sanders of the Open Kitchen at Kenwood UCC will join us during Second Hour to tell us about the Open Kitchen and who it serves. The Open Kitchen is the recipient of our chili every month, and it will be good to hear his first-hand account of what impact our contribution has.
Chili making is this Sunday! Come lend a hand in the kitchen after worship
Sunday 11/11 is Veterans Day
We honor all who served

Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints

We remember those facing health problems: Fred Anderson, Louise's Son, and Larry's brother-in-law.  Our prayers are also with their loved ones and caregivers.

We rejoice with Jason in giving thanks for his baptism one month ago and for his many accomplishments since then. We rejoice with Alice that her daughter-in-law's health is improving and with Christine Bailey that her niece and nephew are recovering well after their car accident.

We give thanks for our veterans and for their sacrifice and service.

We pray for the victims of violence and for refugees across the globe.

And when the fight is fierce, the warfare long,
Steals on the ear the distant triumph song,
And hearts are brave again, and arms are strong.
Alleluia! Alleluia!

The annual stewardship campaign is in full swing.
The office has sent members a letter and pledge card. If you did not receive this letter, please contact the office.
During Sunday worship over the coming weeks, many of us will offer personal testimony of the impact HPUC has on our lives. We hope that this will help spark your own reflections about how vitally important our church community is to us, and to our wider world. Pledge Sunday will be November 18th, the Sunday before Thanksgiving.
Special Offering
Yaisa Hagood, the executive director of our long-time community partner St. Martin de Porres House of Hope, described how we could provide immediate support to the residents there:
  • For our traditional Thanksgiving offering of food, focus on foods the kitchen most urgently needs to feed the residents: whole grain bread and grains such as oatmeal and rice; fruits such as oranges, bananas and apples; and black and pinto beans. Please collect these items for the children's Thanksgiving offering on November 18.
