Happy New Year!

We hope that all of you had a wonderful and safe holiday season. There is so much to look forward to in 2022. Whether it be exciting advances in astronomy or being able to see each other face-to-face at star parties and other safe gatherings, we hope that you are as excited as we are for what is to come.

Making Membership Accessible

Last year, the SAS board formed a committee to investigate ways to make membership more accessible, affordable, and all-encompassing. The board approved the following two new categories for membership:

Binary Star Award: Board members are empowered to recognize outstanding members OR non-members with great potential to contribute to the SAS community by awarding them a free membership.

Sponsored Membership: A sponsored, pay-what-you-can membership option for those who cannot afford the full $35 membership fee. This membership option will be listed on the website and would allow interested members to self-select if funds are still available. There will be no differentiation between dues paying members and sponsored members, nor will there be a formal application process to be eligible for this membership option. Each year, $210 will be set aside for this fund and it is available until it is depleted. Members have the option to donate into this fund if they wish to keep it going.
