Steuben Parade Sep 16th

This weekend’s Steuben Parade is the first highlight of the new school year.

Join us this Saturday parading up Fifth Avenue in Manhattan.

Our Float will assemble on East 70th between Park and Madison Avenue as part of the 7th Division. You can view the full parade line-up here.

Meeting time is around 12:00 noon. Don't forget to bring water and a snack, as it always takes a while until we start moving.

We will have Gummibärchen and GSC business cards to hand out along the parade route. Please wear a GSC T-Shirt or something typical German.

A big Thank You to the Literary Society Foundation for sponsoring the GSC float.

What to do after the parade?

After the parade, we will head back to Stamford and continue the celebration at the Beer Garden at Shippan Landing (https://www.beeratthelanding.com).

The beer garden has Oktoberfest weekend with music, special draft beers and Bavarian-inspired foods. There will be enough space for the younger ones to play and run around.

For anybody traveling back from Manhattan on the train, as the bulk of our group arrives in Stamford, we will arrange for transportation from Stamford Station to Shippan Point.

Buy your GSC T-Shirt at the Parade

At the parade, we will have plenty of GSC T-Shirts on hand in many different sizes, including kids', women's and men's sizes.

Even if you already own one of the old GSC T-Shirts, consider getting a new one for an updated look and to help identify us as a group in the parade.

The price per T-Shirt is $15, with a discount of $5 for each additional T-Shirt bought by the same family. You can outfit a full family of four for just $45. We accept both cash and credit cards.

Volunteer Sign-up

Volunteer Sign-up is now open for Saturday Morning positions such as Hallway Monitor, Saturday Morning Helper, and our new Saturday Morning Flex Position.

For more details and to sign up go to http://germanschoolct.org/volunteering. You can sign up directly from your smartphone as well!

Year-round positions and additional detail on all volunteer positions will be posted over the next few days.

Two important dates:

  • September 23 is Sign-up Saturday - our volunteer coordinator Arne Lewertoff will provide an overview of our volunteering program and answer questions you might have. You will be able to sign up right at the school.
  • October 14 is the last day to sign up for volunteering for everybody, who didn't opt out of volunteering during registration.

On a lighter note...

Did you ever wonder, which German words are most difficult to pronounce for most Americans?
This funny YouTube video sheds some light on the topic: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=oVDD7dyU1uc.
