Year 3 at YOY is off to a tremendous start! We are thrilled to welcome over 20 students to our renovated building, with phase 2 construction completed over the summer to allow for additional classrooms as we continue to grow. Along with our growing student body, we are happy to welcome new staff:
Rabbi Yakov Luria, Rebbe
Rabbi Yakov Luria studied in the Stamford Yeshiva for 4 years before traveling to the Brisk Yeshiva in Israel where he studied under Rabbi A.Y. Soloveitchik. In 2010, he married his wife, Rachel, and they moved to Boston, MA. He has learned in the Boston Kollel for the last five years, and is very excited to be a part of the YOY Faculty.
Rabbi Roy Rosenbaum, 9th Grade Ivrit, 11th Grade American History & American Literature
Rabbi Roy I. Rosenbaum received smicha from Rabbi Aaron Soloveichik z”l and his B.A. and M.A. from the University of Chicago where he studied Political Science. He was a Ford Foundation Fellow there for 4 years while he studied for his Ph.D., and fulfilled all the doctoral requirements other than completing his dissertation. His first professional career was in Jewish communal service for several decades and held senior staff positions, among others, in three Jewish federations, AIPAC, the pro-Israel lobby in Washington, and the Orthodox Union. In 2004, Rabbi Rosenbaum moved to Boston and began teaching in the Maimonides Upper School, where he taught in both the Limudei Kodesh and the History faculties. Rabbi Rosenbaum and his wife Judith live in Newton and are the parents of three adult children.
Mr. Joseph McCourt, Calculus and Foreign Language
Joseph McCourt is a 2016 graduate of the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA and hold a BA degree in Physics with a minor in Chinese Language, spending 5 months studying abroad in Beijing, China. Joseph tutored college level introductory physics while at Holy Cross and is now the Calculus instructor and Duolingo language coordinator at Yeshiva Ohr Yisrael. He is planning to go on to graduate school to earn a PhD in Physics in the future. Joseph was born and raised in Boston, MA (Jamaica Plain) and currently resides there. He is very excited about getting started at YOY.
Dr. David Berlove, Physics
Dr. David Berlove received his Ph.D. in Neurobiology from the University of Rochester and has intensive training in biology, chemistry and physics. He has served as a Research Fellow at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School and has worked for leading biotech companies including Genzyme Corporation. He is listed as a co-inventor on numerous patents. He also runs his own tutoring company focusing on tutoring high school age students in the sciences and preparation for standardized exams. He lives with his wife, Orlee, and 3 school-age children in Newton.
Dr. Daniel Tagoe, AP Biology
Dr. Daniel Tagoe received a PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of Glasgow in Scotland. Originally from Ghana, he has headed medical diagnostics laboratories as a Clinical Microbiologist for the Taylor and Taylor Company, and been a lecturer and researcher for the University of Cape Coast in Ghana. Recently, he joined the Department of Biology in Boston College as a Postdoctoral Research Associate. His current research is focused on sleeping sickness caused by the tsetse fly. As the AP Biology instructor in YOY, he strives to lead and train the next generation of scientists with passion and excellence.
