Presidents Report

Just like that, Christmas is here marking the halfway way point of the 2018/19 season.
As always, the beach is a hive of activity with our lifesavers conducting patrols each weekend and our athletes preparing for the upcoming state and national championships.
Behind the scenes a large volume of work continues to occur to ensure the continued success of the club.
The evening of Friday the 8th of February hosts the Constitution SGM. A copy of the final draft will be added to the club website shortly along with the finer details of the evening. Thank you to both the Constitution Committee as well as the members who attended the member forum to discuss the draft constitution. Your efforts and knowledge ensures Trigg Island remains on a pathway of success as well as meeting the updated Incorporation Act.
In addition, the club has been working in partnership with the City of Stirling to renew our Sub-Lease. Both Jackie Eley and Norm Waldeck have been instrumental in ensuring the interests of the club and its members are represented during this time. Thank you Jackie and Norm.
A first for Trigg Island, the Trigg Island Sundowner. Our surf sports team in conjunction with Finance and Administration have set the wheels in motion for a new annual surf carnival open to lifesavers from all over Australia. This years carnival will see a variety of events run over two age groups. With the backing of SLSWA I’m sure this new initiative will grow from strength to strength over the coming years. If you or someone you know may wish to sponsor the event or a specific discipline please don’t hesitate to contact Ceris Graham our Director of Surf Sports (surfsports@triggisland.com).
The backbone of our lifesaving service revolves around the annual requalification  of our members. Thank you to the Lifesaving and Education team for your efforts over the past 3 months. Your knowledge and expertise allow our members the best opportunity to maintain their skills for when they are called upon to assist those in need.

Enjoy summer, have a great Christmas and successful New Year.

SRC New Member Rescue

Photos of today's rescue from two of our new SRC members in Josh Hantke (U14) and Jacob Cassey (U15) and Thomas Bunton (U14) who just gained their SRC two weeks ago at Trigg. They observed a swimmer in distress and took their club boards out to rescue him. They supported the patient (a club member) until the IRB and Mark Doick from patrol, came to their assistance.

I am very proud of these boys in showing due diligence in noticing the rescue situation and going to assist.

This demonstrates that Trigg training of SRC members is of a quality standard and thanks should go to Bryan Gibbs, Kevin Edwards and Peter Taylor in their training for this award. Trigg now has 23 new SRC youth members together with about 30 parent SRC members assisting with water safety each week.

Thank you DENMAC!

Yet again DENMAC and Rob Innocent have provide first class support to the club and its members through their Silver Sponsorship.

With our youth members the future of the club, it’s great to see the new seating area ready for use in conjunction with the recently marked half court basketball area.
This new addition I’m sure will be utilised by our youth member but also ensures Trigg Island offers that little bit extra for the local community.

The support of DENMAC and all our sponsors is greatly appreciated.

Stronger Communities Programme Grant Success

The Stronger Communities Programme provides each of the 150 federal electorates with $150,000 to fund small capital projects that improve local community participation and contribute to vibrant viable communities.

The Hon Michael Keenan MP, Member for Stirling (WA) invited Trigg Island to apply for a grant. After a very competitive process I am please to announce Trigg Island were successful in obtaining funding of $3,125.00 towards the purchase of a new equipment trailer. On arrival, the new trailer will be used on a regular basis for the storage and transportation of essential lifesaving equipment required for educational programs and events that contribute to the development of our volunteer lifesavers.

In addition, the Lions Club of North Beach have contributed a further $1,250.00 towards the cost of the new trailer.

The support of both the Federal Government and the Lions Club of North Beach is greatly appreciated and continues the long standing partnership ensuring Trigg Island SLSC provides a first class life saving service for the people of West Australia.

Surf Life Saving Long Service Awards

A number of years ago Surf Life Saving created a Long Service Award for members who are actively involved in Surf Life Saving and this applied to any clubs that a member was involved with. The category being for 25, 30, 40, 50 years’ service since obtaining your Bronze.

During the last seven seasons we have researched and nominated over 55 current members to SLSA. All nominations were successful and those members were presented their service pins at the following AGM of our club. If you believe that you have qualified and have not received your service pin, especially those who have been involved in other clubs please notify me on fparlevliet@optusnet.com.au

SLSA have also established National Patrol Service Certificates, which are available to members of affiliated Clubs in recognition of their long service to lifesaving patrols. These Patrol Service Awards are classified for 5,10, 15, 20,25 etc National Patrol Service Certificate. Conditions apply and these can be viewed on SLSA Framework/ Rewards and Recognition page 30.

TISLSC Long Service Awards

As you aware Trigg Island has a 15 and 25 year long service recognition board in the passage way to the training room. This is updated yearly from information in the previous annual report. It is given for service that is for actively helping or doing work for Trigg Island or Surf Life Saving, with length of service being based upon years of active involvement. If you believe that you have qualified and are not listed on either board please notify me on fparlevliet@optusnet.com.au and I will investigate and rectify the situation if correct.

Life Membership nominations

Did you know that the current Clubs constitution allows any financial member to nominate a fellow member to be considered for Life Membership.

The person that is being considered must be over the age of thirty years and who has rendered outstanding service to Trigg’s and has a minimum fifteen years membership excluding Junior membership. Outstanding service is based upon: Excelling in the performance of duties required as an Office Bearer and / or efficient Patrol service during membership and/or outstanding competitive service and / or special service.

A good place to start to see if a person that you are considering is deserving of the nomination is to compare his or her achievements with those listed on the Life Membership Board on display in the passage hall just passed the office. These nominations must be received by 31st March each year. Nominations must include information supporting the application.

The Life Membership and Long Service Awards committee which consists of four Life Members will consider any nominations submitted. Their recommendations are than forwarded to the clubs Board and if approved as per the constitution is finally presented to members at the AGM for a secret ballot.

This award is the highest honour that a club can bestow on one of its members. Please give it your utmost consideration. Email your submission to fparlevliet@optusnet.com.au
