Friday 9 November 2018

October marked the start of the 2018/2019 Surf Sports season, a busy 6 months its set to be. Many of our athletes have been training hard over the winter months, this was on show at the State Endurance Championships held at Sorrento Beach. Highlights of the day were watching the nippers take part in their own iron event and Trigg Islands clean sweep across all board events.
Our board riders continued their dominance in the State Board Riding Championships with a clear victory on 36 points. North Cottesloe and City of Perth rounded out the top three.
Moving into November the competition area really takes off. We have our first Senior Carnival on Sunday the 11th at Leighton Beach. We look forward to watching our U/14s in their first senior carnival as well as TI’s new beach team under the watchful eye of Darren light up the beach. We wish all athletes the best of luck.
During November many of our senior athletes and masters will be heading to Adelaide for Rescue 2018, the Life Saving World Championships. This biennial event includes national teams and inter club competitions with surf, pool, beach, IRB and surfboat events being conducted. Two of our athletes, Jake Smith and Dan Humble will be heading to Adelaide to represent Australia and Great Britain respectively.  Good luck to both our athletes and officials who I’m sure will represent Trigg Island at the highest level.

Congratulations to our Avenall Board Recipients

Today at Sunday events Trigg members were very happy to have an exciting presentation of the Avenall Board. This year’s lucky recipient is Joshua Raemakers of Under 15’s who is a very worthy recipient of this new Kracka board, which has been very kindly donated by the Avenall family. Simon Chris and Sue Avenall today attended to make the formal presentation to Joshua. In attendance were other recipients of the Avenall program where after two years the boards are recycled for other youth members who also show a positive approach to their training and competition for Trigg.
The Avenall family have been donating boards for the past seven years and all of these boards are still circulating within the youth area to support our developing members as they make the transition from nippers to the senior ranks. This program in invaluable to Trigg in being able to support youth members as they make the transition from nippers to seniors. It is important to youth members to have a board suitable for their weight to ensure they can compete and train to their best.
Other members present today with Avenall board contracts for two years were: Kai Marchetto Under 15’s, Harper Davies Under 14’s, Danielle Bordin Under 17’s. Absent today Nyah Gray Under 14’s, Max Hunter Under 17’s, Siena Crevacore Under 17’s.
Congratulations go to Kai, Harper and Josh who yesterday competed in the Endurance championships and represented Trigg with excellent results.

Lifesaving and Education Update

October is done, and with zero rescues on the board, it was a relaxed start to the season.
Thanks to all those members that attended their patrols, and well done to those that did a proxy.
Please could everyone read the Beach Patrols section of the Club website to familiarise themselves with their obligations. Please remember, Make Ups can only be done on afternoon patrols and a new rule for this year: Two Defaults without a Make Up will result in immediate loss of Gym access.
Things are going to get serious in November with warm days and good swells, so please make sure you get to your patrol on time and exercise extra vigilance on the most treacherous beach in the metro area.
My thanks to the Education Team who have put in another huge effort with requalifications: Trigg needs to hold itself to a high standard and this dedicated crew go to great lengths to see that our members are beyond proficient and rescue ready.

Director of Lifesaving and Education
