🏋️‍♀️ Huncote Leisure Centre reopens to the public!

Huncote village sign
We are delighted to say that Huncote Leisure Centre reopened its doors on 17 October.

The centre reopened for the first time since November 2021, when it was closed after the discovery of elevated landfill gas levels, following routine maintenance works.

We've undertaken extensive work since the closure, with recent work focused on ensuring that Huncote Leisure Centre was able to open on schedule since approval of the plans by Councillors back in July.

Following the reopening, important remedial work will continue, meaning that land to the rear of the site, including the BMX track and footpath are expected to remain closed until spring 2023.

The Children and Family Wellbeing Centre run by Leicestershire County Council will be back open to the public from Monday 31st October 2022.

🏆 Honour your heroes in our Community Awards

Community Awards logo

It's back! Once again we want to honour the people and groups who make a positive difference to the district with the opening of the Community Award nominations.

Three categories are open for nominations until Friday 18 November 2022:

  • Volunteer of the Year
  • Young Volunteer of the Year
  • Community Group of the Year

Both Volunteer and Young Volunteer of the Year will honour people who have given up their time to help others in the district. The winner of both categories will receive £100, with the runners-up getting £50.

£750 will also be given to a chosen community group selected by the Volunteer and Young Volunteer winners, with £500 available for a group chosen by the runners-up.

The Community Group of the Year category recognises groups or organisations that have improved the quality of life for residents in the district. £1,000 is up for grabs for the winning group, whilst the runner up will receive £500.

Neighbourhood plans give local people the chance to plan for their own area by developing policies that will guide and shape development for the future.
