The Second Singapore International Conference on Skin Research

By Daniel Broszczak, Queensland University of Technology

Singapore, the land of unparalleled research opportunity and humidity. Recently, the impressive R&D hub of Biopolis played host to a delegation of skin researchers from across the globe. The four day conference, from the 18th to 21st of April, began with a moving tribute to Howard Green, who many remember for his seminal contributions to skin cell culture and in vitro skin sheet formation for autologous grafting in burns patients. The conference included presentations spanning a spectrum of skin research topics, such as biology, inflammation, repair, microbiology, plasticity, and cancer. Wounds research was well represented at the conference with a number of talks from Australian scientists, denoting the important contribution that Australia makes towards this research field globally.
