Introducing Catholic Youth Parramatta's
ELEMENTS

“Elements” is a new online initiative by Catholic Youth Parramatta which offers content for youth ministers to use in their respective parishes, schools and movements. It will be distributed monthly.
We look forward to seeing how Elements grows with you. If you wish to discuss the content of this initiative further, contact Qwayne on qwayne.guevara@parracatholic.org.
Discovering Vocation does not mean scrambling toward some prize just beyond my reach but accepting the treasure of true self I already possess. Vocation does not come from a voice ‘out there’ calling me to be something I am not. It comes from a voice ‘in here’ calling me to be the person I was born to be, to fulfill the original selfhood given me at birth by God.
- Fr. Thomas Merton, O.C.S.O. (1915-1968)

Listen to the Holy Spirit

What a time to be alive and living out our faith! As we have journeyed through in the Year of Youth, there have many opportunities for us to learn more about youth ministry and the realities of young people. Since ACYF 2017 through to ACYMC 2018 to now, the updates and reports from the Synod 2018 on Young People, Faith and Vocational Discernment, we have listened to youth share their stories. Their stories are important to bring to the Plenary 2020!

It is a time of listening and discernment. How fitting that we would be encouraged to listen to the Holy Spirit, not only in our communities, but also in our personal lives. This edition of Elements provides resources relating to young people and vocational discernment and offers ways you can be involved in the Plenary 2020 - the nation wide journey of listening to the Holy Spirit.

Updates on the Synod of Bishops on Youth, Faith and Vocational Discernment:
Discernment Stories:  Tips On Discernment: Contacts: Others Resources:   We hope that some of these will assist you in creating a space for young people to open up and provide guidance relating to their questions around discernment. It's an on-going journey but this is a start!
Holy Role Models
Ignatius of Antioch  was an early Christian writer and bishop of Antioch. En route to Rome, where he met his martyrdom, Ignatius wrote a series of letters. This correspondence now forms a central part of the later collection known as the Apostolic Fathers. He was the first person we know who used the "Catholic"! He bore witness to Christ publicly for the last time in Rome's Flavian Amphitheater, where he was mauled to death by lions. “I am the wheat of the Lord,” he had declared, before facing them. “I must be ground by the teeth of these beasts to be made the pure bread of Christ.
