Introducing Catholic Youth Parramatta's
ELEMENTS

“Elements” is a new online initiative by Catholic Youth Parramatta which offers content for youth ministers to use in their respective parishes, schools and movements. It will be distributed monthly.
We look forward to seeing how Elements grows with you. If you wish to discuss the content of this initiative further, contact Qwayne on qwayne.guevara@parracatholic.org.

"Lent is a fitting time for self-denial; we would do well to ask ourselves what we can give up in order to help and enrich others by our own poverty. Let us not forget that real poverty hurts: no self-denial is real without this dimension of penance. I distrust a charity that costs nothing and does not hurt."
 -Pope Francis

Into the Desert

As Lent draws near, we make space in our lives in order to properly prepare for a season of reflection, prayer and surrender. Lent is a time we are called to journey closely with Jesus. We hope that the following resources enable you to discern the most effective meeting that deepens your young people's understanding of Lent. We are praying with you.

Reflections Guides and Programs
 Podcasts/Videos on Lent
  •  Picking a Thing for Lent - Fr Mike  - Fr. Mike knows the tricks we can play on ourselves when it comes to picking something for Lent. So he gives a straightforward guideline: Don’t pick something that’s arbitrary. Pick something that is necessary.
  • Are Sundays part of lent?  - Pints with Aquinas episode with Matt Fradd discuss this interesting question.
  • The Lenten Practice of Memento Mori | feat. Sr. Theresa Aletheia Noble - “Remember, man, you are dust and to dust you will return.” This is what we’re told on Ash Wednesday; this is our focus for Lent. Check out this cool podcast on the topic of remembering our death and what it means for us this Lent.
  • Lent Explanined - TheoMatters has created a nice little clip explaining Lent that you can show your group at the beginning of your session.
  • Bishop Barron on Lent - Bishop Barron talks about the temptations that Jesus experienced and connects it with our own lives.
Articles
  • Lent is a season for penance - this FOCUS blog gives some tips on how to approach Lent and practices we can take up to remind us of Jesus' passion.
  • Pope Francis' Top 10 - tips to help us along the way. Good article to share with your youth group too!
Holy Role Models
Known as Jesus' foster father on earth and Mary's husband - who was a working man. On the 19th of March, we celebrate this humble man's feast day. He obeyed the will of God and because of his faithfulness, he is recognised as a significant figure in our tradition. He is the patron of the Universal Church. Learn more about him below.

Prayer
Prayer is an essential part of your meetings. In this section we suggest a prayer or a creative way to engage in prayer to encourage young people to deepen their prayer lives. This may include songs, guided prayers or meditations. This month we share with you a reflection video by Xt3 with a song by Fr Rob Galea.
