Introducing Catholic Youth Parramatta's
ELEMENTS

“Elements” is a new online initiative by Catholic Youth Parramatta which offers content for youth ministers to use in their respective parishes, schools and movements. It will be distributed monthly.
We look forward to seeing how Elements grows with you. If you wish to discuss the content of this initiative further, contact Qwayne on qwayne.guevara@parracatholic.org.
O Holy Spirit, descend plentifully into my heart. Enlighten the dark corners of this neglected dwelling and scatter there Thy cheerful beams.
- Saint Augustine

Getting to know the Holy Spirit

"The greatest gift of the Holy Spirit is the Holy Spirit. The living God gives the gift of himself to those who are baptised. From the Spirit flows other gifts, some of which are for our personal sanctification while others are for the building up and support of the body of Christ. Many of the gifts are very familiar to us (wisdom, counsel, love) while others are somewhat foreign (healing, prophecy, tongues). Whatever our experience, the gifts of the Holy Spirit are for all Christians, and no one should think that the gifts are not for them." - quoted from Gifts of the Holy Spirit, SteubenvilleFuel

This edition of Elements explores the Holy Spirit and provides resources to help you plan for a session on the Holy Spirit. We hope that you might be inspired to allow the Holy Spirit to guide you in your work serving our young people.

Holy Role Models
In December of 1531, the Blessed Mother appeared several times to,  St Juan Diego, the poor Aztec Indian in Mexico. On December 12, Mary appeared to him and said, “Listen and be sure, my dear son, that I will protect you; do not be frightened or grieve, or let your heart be dismayed, however great the illness that you speak of. Am I not here? I, who am your Mother, and is not my help a refuge?"

#youthofparradio

In the Year of Youth, we highlight stories of young people in our Diocesce. This is Claire Brown, youth leader at St Finbar's, Glenbrook answering "How did you get involved in the life of your parish?"
"I never thought I’d be involved in my parish youth band but someone invited me asking for help and I ended up running it! I’ve been running the parish youth band with a great team for the last 8 years. When I was asked to help them out, they had basically chosen old hymns and just played them faster and I thought, “Oh! I think we need to do something different here!" It’s been great to impart my passion for music and the joy that comes from it to the kids and to the Church."

Prayer
Prayer is an essential part of your meetings. In this section we suggest a prayer or a creative way to engage in prayer to encourage young people to deepen their prayer lives. This may include songs, guided prayers or meditations. This month, we invoke the Holy Spirit to pray for us in this Year of Youth. There is much to pray for especially for the youth of the Catholic Church in Australia. We call to mind all those who struggle to be open to the faith.
Get Involved or Take Action!
We have launched the raffle to fundraise and have released our video clip inviting youth from Parramatta to come along on the journey to World Youth Day 2019. Click below to find our more about the pilgrimage.
