Federal Budget

Australians need secure well-paying jobs. It’s clear we’re not going to get that from this government.  After eight long years of making cuts and cutting wages, they’re gearing up for an election and have handed down a budget that does not plan for the future, only for an election.

The Liberals and Nationals have left millions of Australians behind.

Their aged care policy is inadequate and ignores recommendations from the Royal Commission.

Their child care policy will help just 1 in 10 families while Labor's will benefit 9 in 10 families.

The centrepiece of their jobs policy, the JobMaker Hiring Credit, promised 450,000 jobs. They could only deliver 1,000.

Just because the recession could have been worse, doesn’t mean the recovery can’t be better.

After eight long years of making cuts to services and cutting wages, the Government has handed down a budget that does not plan for the future, only for an election.

This Budget, like the last, is a missed opportunity.

Labor Budget Reply

Good government changes lives.

The policies and decisions of good government can make all the difference. They build a strong economy and a fair society. They open the door to education, employment, good housing, proper health care and a better life.

Building social and affordable housing now and into the future, investing in apprenticeships, protecting Australian workers from exploitation, strengthening laws to prevent sexual harassment at work and investing in young Australians will strengthen our recovery and create a better Australia.

These are the policies that back every Australian.

Australians deserve a good Government that works for them. They need a government on their side.

Budget Reply Speech

Watch The Leader of the Oppostion Anthony Albanese's Budget Reply Speech below.

Start Up Year

This new initiative would tap into the energy and ideas of young Australians to accelerate the creation of new businesses and future jobs.

‘Startup Year’ will offer 2000 students the opportunity to be mentored by our most innovative universities and private-sector incubators to turn their ideas into Australia’s future businesses.

This program will drive a new generation of innovators, risk takers and wealth-creators while also bolstering Labor’s strategy for sustainable growth and quality future jobs.

Housing Australia Future Fund

An Albanese Labor Government will create a ten billion dollar off-budget Housing Australia Future Fund to build social and affordable housing now and into the future.

This will create jobs, build homes and change lives.

Over the first five years, it will build 30,000 social and affordable houses, including 4,000 for women and children escaping domestic violence.

New Energy Apprenticeships

The world’s climate emergency should be Australia’s jobs opportunity.

An Albanese Labor Government will invest $100 million to support 10,000 New Energy Apprenticeships.

It will encourage apprentices to train in the new energy jobs of the future.

Wage Theft

An Albanese Government will protect Australian workers from exploitation and rip-offs by criminalising wage theft.

Wage theft costs workers an estimated $1.35 billion every year.

A Labor Government will consult with states and territories, unions and employers to develop laws that criminalise wage theft nationwide.

This Week in Parliament

This week I spoke in the House of Representatives about the distressing stories of Australians of Indian descent who have been left stranded overseas by this Government.
