Werriwa eNewsletter

22 January 2021

Dear <<First Name>>

Happy New Year and I hope you have all been enjoying the summer.

Welcome to the first edition of the Werriwa eNewsletter for 2021.

The coming year is gearing up to be a big one in Federal politics. Federal Parliament will commence in the first week of February and I will continue to strongly advocate on the issues that matter most to you.

Although it is a new year, many of the problems faced by our community are the same. A lack of resources and funding for South-Western Sydney that have left our schools overpopulated, hospital waiting lists are too long and our roads congested.

The Coronavirus also appears to be with us for some time yet. Notwithstanding the roll out of a vaccination program over coming months, health advice anticipates international travel will not return this year. Despite this, we must do more to bring our loved ones home to Australia.

Therefore, we must all continue to be vigilant and follow the health advice throughout the summer. Whether at the beach, the local community pool or leisure centre, remember to socially distance, wear a mask where appropriate and as always slip, slop, slap, slide and seek!

Stay safe and keep well.

Kind Regards

Australia Day

Australia Day is this Tuesday and there is plenty to do around the electorate. See below for a list of local events.

While Australia Day is a day of celebration for the many great things about our nation, it should be about reflection. It marks the day First Nations peoples’ lives changed forever – the beginning of over two centuries of dispossession, massacres and the separation of families. It also marks the commencement of the colonisation and settlement process on these lands.

I urge everyone to use the day as an opportunity to learn about our history and understand how it is inextricably connected to legacies impacting the challenges of the present and future.
