As you are all aware, this Thursday the health advice changed regarding the ages at which the AstraZeneca vaccine should be administered. From now on it will only be given to those who are over 60 years old. The changes were made on the recommendation of ATAGI (Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation). If you have any concerns you should talk to your doctor.

Australia currently has approximately 3% of its population fully vaccinated. Many front line workers, aged care residents and disability workers and people with a disability are still waiting for their vaccines, even though we were promised by the Morrison Government we were at the front of the queue and these groups would be fully vaccinated early this year.

To open up and to keep people healthy we need to be vaccinated; both the US and the UK will have most of their population fully vaccinated by July, a massive feat and something which would have been possible in Australia if it had been properly planned.

The link below is the NSW Government website where you can find out where you can be vaccinated and make an appointment. I encourage you to talk to your doctor or health professional and, on their advice, make an appointment to have your vaccine as soon as possible to keep everyone safe.

This month in Parliament, I spoke on a Matter of Public Importance addressing the failure of the Government to have a plan for the nation.

Save Medicare Petition

The Liberal Government have been caught trying to sneak in almost 1,000 changes to Medicare.

Australians will now have to pay thousands more for procedures involving orthopaedic, heart and general surgery. Patients have already now had their surgeries delayed and some have been left out-of-pocket as they received huge bills they weren’t prepared for.

Every Australian deserves access to world-class health care. Labor built Medicare and we will always protect and support it.

Refugee Week

Next week is Refugee Week. Beginning on June 20, World Refugee Day, allows Australians to celebrate the contribution that refugees make to our community and highlights the challenges refugees face.

The theme for Refugee Week 2021 is Unity - The way forward. It emphasises the need for everyone to work together to survive, thrive and progress.

Werriwa has one of the highest rates of refugees and migrants anywhere in Australia. We have a vibrant, inclusive community, where everybody appreciates and displays their proud values and traditions.

Re-Illuminate - Fairfield City Council

On Sunday 27 June Fairfield City Council will light up the sky with a community event 'Re-Illuminate' held at Fairfield Showground.

'Re-Illuminate' will celebrate the city's multiculturalism with music, rides, food, carnival games and a fireworks finale. The event will be held from 4:30-8:30pm.

COVID-19 Sydney Case

Following a positive case of COVID-19 on June 16 in Sydney's eastern suburbs, the State Government has urged those in the area to be on high alert for symptoms and to get tested if you have been to an exposure site.

Although the case was in the eastern suburbs, we need to continue to be vigilant and monitor for symptoms. We know how fast the virus can travel and we must follow the public health orders.
